Speaker 1: Most people dream of living in a large bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and endless storage, but this is not the reality for most. However, by utilizing smart storage solutions, it is possible to make a small bedroom work just as well. In this video, I'll go through 12 of my best storage tricks for small bedrooms so you can make every square inch of space count. Trick 1. Double Duty Furniture You have to be strategic when it comes to space in a small bedroom. So using pieces that serve two purposes is a good way to go. If you intend on having a desk in your bedroom, consider using it as a desk and a bedside table. Similarly, if you have a small dresser, consider using it as a dresser and a bedside table to maximize space. Maybe you'll prefer to have a bookshelf and a small table in your bedroom, and therefore consider using a bookcase with a fold-down table. Perhaps you'd like somewhere to sit besides your bed, and therefore consider getting an end-of-bed bench with storage underneath and a seat on top. These ideas will give you extra storage space while still having a balanced look. Trick 2. Floating Shelves as a Bedside Table Floating shelves are a great alternative to bulky bedside tables, as they will make your bedroom feel larger and less clouded as the floors are kept clear. However, if you do need a bit extra storage, baskets underneath a floating shelf can do the trick while still feeling quite minimalistic. Trick 3. Under-Bed Storage When most people think of under-bed storage, they think of kids' trundle beds. However, this type of storage doesn't have to only be for kids' rooms. Whether you get built-in drawers under your bed or use storage containers, under-bed storage is perfect for stashing away out-of-season items and other things you don't use on a daily basis. Trick 4. Maximize Your Vertical Space Vertical space often goes unused in bedrooms, and it is perfect for storage. Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes are a great example of trying to maximize vertical space. However, a lot of that space usually goes untapped, especially in build-to-grade closets that only have a hanging bar and one shelf. Consider using a clothing rote to maximize the space. There's also heaps of vertical space behind doors that can be used. Consider trying out over-door hangers or hooks. They're fantastic for storing hats, bags, and coats while keeping it all hidden when the door is left open. You can also try all these tricks on the interior side of a wardrobe door if there's enough space. Another vertical space solution is using a coat rack in the corner of the bedroom. This is perfect for storing bulkier items like coats in an organized way without taking up precious wardrobe space. Trick 5. Stackable Drawers If you don't want to make permanent alterations to your wardrobe like drilling to adding shelves or rods, but you still want to make the most out of your vertical space, you can use stackable drawers, or even place a dresser in your closet. Not only will this give you extra storage space, but will also let you organize your clothing into more specific categories than what you could do before. Trick 6. Modular Storage Modular storage systems are composed of multiple different components that can be combined together in endless configurations to fit your bedroom. They give you the bespoke look of a custom storage unit, but for a fraction of the price. You can have a modular storage unit designed as a dresser, one that doubles as a cabinet and bench, or one that features as a bookcase. They're also perfect for people who are living in a small bedroom, moving a lot, or renting, as they can be deconstructed and rearranged. Trick 7. Narrow Dressers or Tallboy Instead of big, bulky dressers, consider getting narrower ones or a tallboy in the corner of your bedroom. Tallboys are much more space efficient than dressers, as they are much taller than they are wide. You can also continue this idea of scaling down furniture throughout your bedroom to reduce visual clutter and free up space. For example, consider getting a queen bed instead of a king bed, and smaller versions of other furniture items. Trick 8. Drawer Dividers Drawer dividers help you use all the space in your drawers and encourages you to take the time to properly fold and store clothing. Most of us already use dividers in the kitchen for cutlery, but don't realize that they can also be used in the bedroom drawers. They're especially good for organizing small items like underwear and socks, that are often chucked into a drawer and never found again. Trick 9. Space-Saving Hangers Instead of ordinary hangers, you can use space-saving ones that feature grooves or additional hooks so multiple pieces of clothing can be hung on one hanger. Also consider better ways of arranging your clothing with hangers. For example, it is better to hang pants than fold them, as you can fit more pants vertically than folded in a drawer. It is also a good idea to buy hangers that are specific to the clothing, like a white hanger with pan-clips for suits. Trick 10. Open or Semi-Open Closets Having an open or semi-open closet can make a small bedroom feel larger, as you can see all the way to the back wall. It is a great idea if your room doesn't come with built-in closets, and also takes up less space. If you don't have too many things, a curated rack of clothes can also make for a feature in the room. Alternatively, you can close them up with a curtain to mimic a built-in without needing too much work. Trick 11. Utilize Alcoves If there are alcoves in your bedroom due to an awkward room shape or ceiling structure, it is the perfect place for a built-in custom storage unit. Since it's totally customizable, you can make the wardrobe less steep than a typical wardrobe to suit a smaller space. Also think about the space you have in your room. Trick 12. Build Storage Around Your Bed Finally, if you are in the process of building or renovating, you may consider building storage around your bed. You can build headboard storage with built-in bedside tables, or a custom end-of-bed trunk or bench. From closed storage if you prefer a minimal look, all the way to an open bookshelf that will add some visual interest. Those are 12 of my top tips for choosing a built-in headboard storage unit. Those are 12 of my best storage tricks for small bedrooms. If you have any questions, leave them in the comment section below and I'll try my best to answer them.
