Speaker 1: Hi everybody, and welcome to PRN Funding's 5 Must-Know Medical Transcription Tips. This informational video is meant for anyone in the medical transcription industry looking to gain an edge on the competition, increase productivity, and ultimately grow your business. Whether you're an individual transcriptionist or the owner of a transcription company, you'll

Speaker 2: find something useful here.

Speaker 1: Our first tip is for new transcriptionists or veterans looking to gain an edge. Get certified. While you don't technically have to get trained or certified, this is a huge edge on the competition and can mean pay increases for you from the get-go. As far as training goes, medical transcription training programs are offered through vocational schools, community colleges, and online programs. The best programs focus on anatomy, medical documentation and terminology, healthcare and legal issues, and grammatical English. After training is completed, a transcriber can test for accreditation as a Certified Medical Transcriptionist or a Registered Medical Transcriptionist. The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity, AHDI, provides training locations, specified testing times and locations, and general medical transcription career information. Tip number two is to set daily goals and take lots of breaks throughout the day. As we all know too well, sitting in front of a computer for hours a day, whether it be at home or in an office, is very draining on your body. Transcriptionists must be constantly concentrating and typing to make money, which is a problem when you get a splitting headache or go to la-la land for longer than expected. To combat these issues, set reachable goals for yourself and keep track of where you are throughout the day. In addition, take hourly breaks to break up the monotony rather than waiting a couple hours for a break. Get up and take a lap around your house or office.

Speaker 2: You'll be surprised at the results when you get back. Tip number three is for that obstacle sometimes hardest to overcome, distractions.

Speaker 1: As a medical transcriptionist, you have to be constantly listening and concentrating hard if you want to get your lines done. For those of you at home, distractions are abundant. Your kids, food, household tasks that you just remembered you ought to be doing. These things are fine in moderation, but to help yourself, set a timer and allot yourself a specific time to finish your tasks. Same for those of you in the office succumbing to Facebook or other social media. It's okay, but don't get sucked in where 15 minutes becomes an hour.

Speaker 2: Tip number four is to chase perfection.

Speaker 1: Zero errors is the only acceptable goal for a transcriptionist. The time wasted by going back and fixing errors is just that, time and therefore money wasted. To be truly productive, it's not the fastest typing that's going to get you results. It's the least errors. A method that some recommend is to listen to a whole sentence in context and then type it rather than parroting. It saves both time and costly, even deadly, transcription errors. The last tip is specifically for transcription business owners. As you well know, cash flow can be slow or intermittent when dealing with payment from hospitals or clinics. Waiting for cash is not an option because payroll and other expenses have to be paid just for you to stay in business. Tip number five, therefore, is to factor your business with PRN funding. PRN funding has years of experience in the medical transcription industry. Our founder and CEO, Phil Cohen, had previously worked for the nation's largest transcription company and he's passed along that knowledge to his staff. If you sell us your receivables, you receive 80-90% of the amount back immediately in cash. The remainder, less a small fee, is paid back after the invoices are paid by your customers. Factoring is the best option for businesses like medical transcription companies because it offers flexibility, is affordable, and results in improved cash flow. I hope you've enjoyed our five tips and found them informative. If you're interested in invoice factoring, give us a call at 866-886-9466 or online at prnfunding.com. Thanks for watching.
