Speaker 1: Hey y'all, I'm Courtney Sharae. Welcome to a day in the life of a healthcare information technology consultant. Today is actually a kind of light day. I only have two meetings today and I have to take a proctored exam. So I'm taking an exam today because I am in the process of becoming EPIC certified. The certification that I am working on is the EPIC Professional Billing Certification or EPIC PV Certification. EPIC certification is for IT professionals who work in the health industry who work with EPIC software. Back in July, my company sent me to the EPIC Intergalactic Headquarters in Verona, Wisconsin for EPIC PV training for two weeks. You must be sponsored by an organization that uses EPIC to attend EPIC training and to become EPIC certified. EPIC PV certification consists of two exams and two system build projects. You must pass three of the four with an 85% and on the final exam, you must make at least an 80%. EPIC's campus is beautiful. I didn't get to explore the entire campus much while I was there because the majority of my time outside of training class was spent working. Unfortunately, work did not stop just because I was at training. All of the training classes took place in the Voyager Learning Hall. And fun fact, the Voyager Learning Hall is named after the Voyager spacecraft. Cool, right? Each building has a different theme. This building is a farmhouse and they even have a castle. The decor in Voyager Hall is eccentric and fun. My favorite part of the campus was the views of the rolling hills and the gorgeous greenery. It was breathtaking. The food was delicious and overall, I give my experience a 10 out of 10. I cannot wait to go back for another training and if you ever get the opportunity to take an EPIC training class, I highly suggest that you opt to go on campus. I promise you will not be disappointed. The thing I like to do whenever I log in is check my schedule for the day. That just allows me to see what my day is going to flow like, see if there are meetings that I'm moderating. That way I can go ahead and get the agenda together if I hadn't done so already and then if I have any deliverables that will need to be ready for that meeting, I can go ahead and work on those or you know make the final touches on those and then after I check my schedule, then I like to check my emails. Checking my emails first thing in the morning is super important because my current client, they are in another time zone. I'm in the eastern time zone so sometimes I get emails after hours from them which it's regular working hours for them but after hours for me and I've set the boundary that I'm not checking emails at night. Some nights I do. So when I log in in the morning, first thing I do after checking my schedule is checking emails. That way I can go ahead and address any urgent matters from the night before. So let's go ahead and check our emails. So I just got done checking my emails and now I'm about to get dressed. Y'all, I don't usually get dressed. Usually I would just stay like this until it's time for me to get ready for the gym. However, since I am recording, I will look presentable for y'all. Let's go make some coffee. This coffee is so good. I discovered oat milk in Madison, Wisconsin while I was at Epic Training back in July and ever since I tried oat milk in my coffee, I've been addicted. I found this oat milk creamer when I got back to Charleston and I'm obsessed with it. Absolutely 100% obsessed with it. If you've never tried oat milk creamer or just plain oat milk in your coffee, I highly suggest that you try it out. Highly suggest. So I am about to start prepping for my exam and I have a few things I need to do for work before I take this exam at 9 30. It is a proctored exam so that means I'll have somebody watching me while I take the exam. There are 45 questions. You get two hours to take the exam. It is open book. Thank you Jesus, hallelujah. I am just going to use the PDF version of the training companion. Hold on, let me show you what the training companion looks like. Okay, so this is the training companion that we got while we were actually in training class and they have a PDF version of this so I'm going to actually use the PDF version of the training companion during the exam. That way I can control F to look for the answers. You see how thick this is? It would take me forever to find the answer if I had to manually like sift through this manual. Yes, I'm going to use the PDF version. You can take the exam up to three times. I'm praying that I pass today. You have to make at least an 85% in order to pass. Please pray for me. Please pray for me. I'm a little bit nervous because I don't want to have to retake the exam. I just want to take it, pass it, move on to the next thing. I'll check back in with y'all right before I take the exam. Hey friends, it is 9 25. I have five minutes to log into examity, get my camera turned on and get this exam started. I am so nervous. However, it is what it is. Like we just got to tackle this. We just got to do it. Okay. So the good thing is I will get my exam results today. They give me two hours to take the exam. Hopefully that's enough time for me. We'll see. Usually I'm a really good test taker and hopefully I won't need the full two hours. I'm thinking maybe like an hour and 15 hour and 20 minutes and then I should be good because it's only 45 questions. All right, so let me get myself together and then I'll check in with y'all after the exam. Unfortunately, I can't bring y'all along with me because again, it is proctored. I'm going to literally have to like show the proctor my entire like workspace. Like I can't even have my cell phone on the desk like within arm's reach. So I have to like put that far away from me. I have my Mac book on my desk. I'm going to have to close this and I'm allowed to have this training companion with me, but like I'm not supposed to have anything else on my desk even though it's an open book test. I don't understand why they're so strict, but I guess it's so that you don't cheat. So anyways, it is now 9 27. I'm going to stop talking and get myself together so that I can take this exam. All right y'all, wish me luck and I'll check in with y'all as soon as I get done. Two hours later. Y'all, it is 11 23. It took me exactly one hour and 52 minutes to take that exam. I basically needed the whole two hours, so I'm very grateful for the amount of time that was allotted to take the exam. Now we wait for our exam results. That was a lot more challenging than I thought it was going to be. I thought, you know, open book, you got this, like you gonna breeze through, you'll be done in like an hour. I needed like all two of those hours. Okay, now we wait. We wait for the exam results. I'm starving. I am so hungry, but as soon as I get my results, I'm going to eat. Like I feel like I can't leave my desk right now because I just need to see. Okay, hold on. We got an email. We got an email. We got an email. I made a 93. Let's go. Y'all, let's go eat lunch. I ordered a side of guacamole and some queso, but this burrito bowl doesn't even need it. It's so good. I just added a little hot sauce in. We are good. Well, I actually think I will want to finish eating my lunch and then we have a 12 30 call. So let me eat and I'll see y'all at our 12 30 call. Friends, I am so excited that I passed that exam. Like I am still floating on cloud nine. Okay. I am still so happy that I passed with a 93%. I think this is the perfect way to set the tone for the remainder of the project. Like I made a 93. Okay. I'm claiming that this next exam that I have to take is going to be a breeze. Just like this one. I'm praying that the two build projects that I have are going to be a breeze. Okay. Your girl is feeling kind of smart today, even though it's open book, like don't come for me, but still, all right, it is 1228. So it's time for us to get in work mode because we do have a call at 1230 with the sales executive, the executive director over our department. We also are going to have the engagement director on this call. And so typically we just talk high level what's going on with the project. That way we're keeping everyone in the loop. Let me get my air pods in and let's join this call guys. I'm going to go ahead and turn my camera on. Our company doesn't require that we turn our camera on, but it's kind of like if everyone else has their camera on, then you typically just turn your camera on. That's just how it works. Hey, y'all. Yeah, everything's been going good. We actually had a really good call last Friday with the I'm staffed as the engagement slash project manager on this project, which means I'm responsible for the overall management of the project. I'm new to healthcare, it project management and consulting. So I learned something new every single day. And I'm just very thankful that I've come so far from where I started because y'all, it was a struggle. Okay. My current team consists of an engagement director who I report to myself and four badass consultants who specialize in different functionalities of Epic. They are so amazing at what they do. The project isn't even over yet. And they've already identified opportunities to save our clients tons of time and money, as well as recover millions of dollars in revenue. Ultimately, my responsibilities as an engagement manager are to manage project progress, set deadlines, help solve any administrative issues, evaluate project performance, and ensure stakeholder satisfaction. I haven't checked in with y'all since our 1230 call is now 158. And we are moving on to our next and final call of the day. This call is with the consultants and the resources on the client's end. So it's the IT resources. So let's hop on this call. Let's listen and learn. Hey, y'all. As the engagement manager, I don't have to sit in on all of the calls that the consultants have with the client's resources and client stakeholders. However, because I am so new to healthcare IT and to consulting, I try to expose myself to as much information as possible that's going to help me better understand the project as a whole and what we're doing for our client. Typically, these conversations are very technical. And a lot of times they go straight over my head, especially when I first started out on this project. However, I have noticed that the more I expose myself to these conversations, the better my understanding has become. And that's a huge win in my book. All right, y'all, that concludes a day in the life of a healthcare information technology consultant. I hope that you learned something in this video.
