Speaker 1: This semester we've been working on an immersive learning project reporting sustainability for Ball State University. Diving into Ball State sustainability in the terms of economic, environmental, and social. In my opinion the outcome of this report is going to show that Ball State is a sustainable community. That they're working towards efforts of becoming a community that is more aware of the carbon that it's putting in the air. More aware of how much fuel their vehicles are using. More aware of where money is going and where money could be going. And more aware of their impact on not only the Ball State community itself but understanding that bigger concept of how they're affecting Muncie, Delaware County, the state of Indiana, the Midwest even. The students tell me that their

Speaker 2: communication skills have improved drastically and their ability to ask questions has very much improved. And of course since so much of the reporting is summarizing data and representing that in both narrative as well as graphic form they become more highly skilled in summarizing the information that they've found.

Speaker 3: Knowing that what we're doing right now is going to be kind of engraved in Ball State for the rest of its being hopefully. And the things that we look into and look forward to hopefully will be implemented in the future. Being able to see how the university implements these policies that they have. Things that they've completed in the past and how they're working forward. And it's given me like a better understanding of how businesses and facilities and

Speaker 4: campuses such as this kind of run. It empowers you because you realize oh like I can talk to these people and I am becoming a professional by getting this experience. So being able to sit and talk to people in a professional manner working on a team cohesively. Having a better understanding of what it means to

Speaker 1: be sustainable. Understanding a lot of those key benchmarks that we use and understanding what factors really go into those. But it also allows our

Speaker 2: immersive team to point to areas that the university might be excelling in. But the immersive team's also been tasked with pointing toward weaknesses and deficiencies. In that regard the report can help decision-makers within the university identify where those weaknesses are and see suggestions for ways that the students see that progress could be made forward.
