Speaker 1: So for actors, you have a choice. You can either get an acting agent or an acting manager. There is a difference There are some differences. There are a lot of similarities. I'm gonna help you out. Okay, okay Hi, my name is Mikayla Lysak I'm back with another acting video this girl right here. I Have agents and I have a manager so I'm with AFH talent boom I'm with this agency and I have three agents within the agency and then I also have a manager and I'm with Rachel Rothman oh my gosh I love my manager I'm sorry she's the best like I love Rachel so much she's so good I think I've been with her for like three years four I don't even know but um yeah I have an agent and a manager so I mean you as an actor it's your decision whether you want to get just an agent, just a manager, or if you want to have both. It all depends, um, it all depends on how much commission you want to be giving out of your checks, but trust me, there is a benefit to having either one. There are pros and cons to both of them, so I'm going to go over that right now. So at the end of this video, you'll have an idea of whether an agent or a manager is best for you. So let's talk about agents. What does an agent do? Agents work for an agency and they can legally submit clients for employment. They are allowed to negotiate contracts under their client's behalf. And agents, they also represent like a large number of people, more than a manager would. So there's a lot more people that they're dealing with, not just you. You're a teeny baby fish in a big school of fish. And an agent can take no more than 10% of their client's earnings. Now, managers. Managers, they don't work under an agency. They can literally work from anywhere. They can work from their house. They can work in a coffee shop. They're not under an agency. They're just them, their own entity. Most people view managers as just a way to get guidance with their career. You know, they will lead them in the right direction to help them because managers, you know, they can be a little more personal than an agent. Agents have a lot more clients. While agents can be, you know, personal and they can, they'll still, you know, talk to you on the phone, all that. You can go in and talk to them and see them. Managers are more so there to have a relationship with their clients. They have a smaller group of clients and so they're there to talk and they're there to help guide you. Agents and managers both are there to guide you, but managers can do it on a more personal level. So managers don't negotiate contracts, but they're actively involved in the process of contracts and getting a job and all that. So they'll keep you updated on each step. So they'll be like, okay, this is what the network's doing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And usually managers take 10 to 15% of a client's earnings. So they can take a little more than an agent. Now, the most important thing for an actor is just for you to find somebody who works best for you. Somebody you can trust. Somebody you work well with. Somebody that believes in you. They are working for you. Both agents and managers are there to help you. Some managers don't send clients out for auditions. Both my agent and managers send me out for auditions. and so I get double the opportunity which is really nice. Something that my manager might not be able to get me is something that my agent can get me, they have access to. So it's really nice having both as well. If you're going in for a meeting, just ask the agent or the manager what they're going to do for you. You know, what's the commission, what do you do, like do you send people out for auditions? You know, ask them what they specialize in, what they do, and I think, you know, It's different for every agency and every manager. Maybe one agent could just be commercial audition. It's like it just depends on Who you're going to see so ask during a meeting What the agent or the manager does and I think that'll give you a clearer picture when you're trying to decide what you want so just Find somebody legit and find somebody you have a connection with somebody you feel you can work well with you want a good team and I have a good team and so it's important because then you feel safe and you feel like okay we're gonna get through this you know through times of rough like the corona um we're a team and so just make sure when you are looking for your representation you have a strong connection and you feel like y'all can be a team so yeah I hope this video helped a little bit if you have any more questions be sure to DM me on Instagram, I will be responding to all of you who DM me on Instagram.
