Speaker 1: Thank you. And now we're going to compare Memsource with other softwares to see what makes it different from the rest and why it becomes one of the best options for professional translating work and the pick-up stop for training translators. Here are 4 softwares we're going to use today. CafeTrans, SmartCAD, Trellis, and WorkFast. First of all, let's take a look at the cost for full version and its trial license. As you can see, both Memsource and SmartCAD offer the permanent access of premium features. However, while SmartCAD allows you to have a free account perpetually, Memsource requires the user to create a new account to reset 30-day trial to get access to its higher versions, unless you want to keep your own account and pay 27 per month for extension. As for CafeTrans, the software provides you a permanent free account with very very limited features so that you have to pay $239 later to make your life easier. And next are two mispricey apps. Shadows and WorkFast also give you 30-day trial to fully access to all features. Unlike Memsource, the user cannot reset the trial by using the different accounts. Therefore, if you want to have the best experience, you must pay more than $500 to continue using it. And in case you really like their trial, buy a new computer if you want to do so. And regarding the platform for the software, Shadows is only available on Windows while the other four can be installed on other platforms like Mac, OS, Linux, and Java. Next, as some of you may already know, CafeTrans, Shadows, and WorkFast are computer programs that you have to download and install in order to use them, while Memsource and SmartCAD are cloud-based apps, in which all the work, projects, and documents you have done can be saved online. Additionally, only Memsource can be used both online and offline, like my teammate mentioned. With regard to the supported file formats, all software provides enough file types for your common use, with more than 50 formats added in Memsource and Shadows. And what you'll notice is that when you're working with PDF file, make sure to handle it and change it into .file because the result may go wrong if you work with it directly with the CAD tools. And one of the interesting things is that, during my research, I found that Memsource is the only CAD tool upgrading the interface for 18 languages, which targets a really wide range of audiences, and then coming up with the Shadows with 9 languages for display. The last three just support 2 or 1 interface languages. So after trying all the mentioned CAD tools, I have some remarkable comments on each app. So far, the most accessible software is SmartCAD. Its layout is clear and minimal, so I highly recommend it for translators who is new to this technological assistance. SmartCAD also has a helpful support service from the developer. As I mentioned, it offers free accounts with almost good features but unlike Memsource, you have to pay for the machine translation and text recognition system. Furthermore, this software is quite slow when it comes to analyzing the file. Following that is WordFest. This software is also easy and practical to pick up. The program works really well on Microsoft Office apps, obviously. However, this guy is not very friendly with other drives. I noticed that WordFest sometimes has bugs and lags on Google Docs and Excel. Next is CaffeTrend. This software is the great choice for translators. Its line is simple and runs really well on old PCs. Like I said, it is helpful for translators but not with project managers. This app still needs lots of improvements on group project and translation team work. Last is Traders. This guy is no doubt the most advanced translation-assisted tool out there. This software is the most comprehensive and reliable for professional translators. Nonetheless, the installation is heavy and it takes quite some time to get used to the layout. Furthermore, Traders is notoriously slow. It could crash occasionally if you do not have a good computer. And this man is really expensive, like $500 plus expensive. All in all, we can see that Mentos is not a bad choice for undergraduate users like us. You can use it anywhere even without your own laptop. The interface is also accessible and of course, it's free. Everything is saved online and you don't have to worry about the confidentiality. However, you must worry when there is no internet connection. And Mentos also crashes occasionally when it goes offline. And that's all for the comparison. Now it's the activity and discussion part. I and teammates will continue from here. I'm sorry that I'm not able to be there with you guys due to my family issue. But please, if you have any questions for me, feel free to email. My student email will be included in the transcript. Thank you for joining and stay safe.
