Speaker 1: Ok, in this video, I will look at the way source text can be modified in the editor of 4 CAD tools, Deja Vu X2, Memo Q6, SDL Trudder Studio 2011 and Wordfast Pro 3.1. For this, I will be using a short document in English with two misspelt words, receive and compatible, and I will pretend the document was already imported in each of the tools I just mentioned. Ok let's start with Deja Vu X2. In Deja Vu, it has been possible to edit the source text for a very long time already back in version 3, which means at the end of the 90s. In Deja Vu, there is no specific command for editing source, it's enabled by default. So all you have to do is go to the segment in which you want to make the change and click on it and you can make your change. So here I change like this and I can move to the next segment where I want to make a change here and I make my change and that's it. So it's possible anywhere to make changes which means that it can be dangerous because you can erase an entire segment if you want or you can type unintended text if you are not careful but that's the price to pay for being able to edit right away. One interesting feature in Deja Vu which is unique to Deja Vu is the possibility to make global changes in the source column. So this can be handy if you have the same word in a long document that is consistently misspelled, you can make a global change via edit and replace. You just enter the word you want to replace and enter the replacement you want to make and specify that it has to be in the source text and here you go. Other tools do not allow you to do this. So now let's move to MemoQ. MemoQ has supported source editing right from the very first version but obviously not as long as Deja Vu, it's a much younger product. The way it works is I go to the source cell where I want to make the change and I select from the edit menu edit source which is F2 like in Excel and several other programs so it's quite easy to remember and when I do this I get as a visual clue that I'm in editing mode green background and I can make my change and I can move away to the next one and now I can press F2 again and make the change. That's how it works. Here I notice in the first segment I have a couple of tags, it's in fact a bookmark which is useless in this particular case and MemoQ allows you to delete such bookmarks so I press F2 and I can delete it. We will see later on that Wordfast Pro also displays the same tag after the word complete but it is not possible to remove that tag in Wordfast Pro like it is in MemoQ. And one difference with Deja Vu is that in MemoQ it is not possible to make global changes via the find replace function so if I select from the operations menu replace I can see that if the operation applies to the source segment I can only enter text in the find what field and the replace with field is greyed out so it's not possible to use it for making global changes. You have to make the changes one cell at a time. Now let's move to the next tool which is Studio 2011. So now I'm in Studio 2011 and Studio was a late comer in the edit source bangwagon since the feature was only introduced in Studio 2011 Service Pack 2 which was released in early summer 2012. The way the feature works I go to the segment I want to change and if I right click it I can see there's an edit source option but it's greyed out. This is because SDL thought it could be too risky to make changes to the source cells so it has to be enabled at the project level which means that project owners can decide to disable this feature. Here I don't have this problem since the project was created by myself so I can go to project settings and to the top project and here I can see there's a setting labelled allow source editing for supported file types and I will tick it and OK. So now if I right click I can access edit source which is also Alt F2 and I get a visual clue that I'm in editing mode with thicker borders around the segment. So I can make my change and that's it I can move to the next segment I want to change and now I can press Alt F2 and again I can make my change. One difference with Deja vu in studio is that it is not possible to make global changes to the source columns so you have to modify the source cells one by one even if I go to edit and replace I can enter even if I enter text in both fields and I indicate it applies to source nevertheless I will not be able to perform global replace. So let's move now to Wordfast Pro. Like in studio edit source is a very new feature in Wordfast Pro it was introduced in version 3.1 released in early August 2012. The way it works I go to the segment I want to change and I can right click and select edit source and I get a pop-up window and here I can make the change and press OK and I will have my segment change. One thing I noticed in Wordfast Pro is that there is no keyboard shortcut assigned to the edit source function so I will assign one and I will choose the same as in studio that is Alt F2 so I go to edit preferences and I type source here to locate the comment edit source and in bindings I will type Alt F2 and OK. So now I can instead of right clicking I can press Alt F2 and I have access to the segment I need to change so compatible that's it. Another remark is that in the first segment I have a tag after the word complete like in MemoQ and it's this useless bookmark but unlike in MemoQ it is not possible to remove that tag so if I press Alt F2 and I try to delete this UT2 it is not possible. So that's a small difference with MemoQ. So that was a quick review of the edit source function in Deja Vu, MemoQ, Studio and Wordfast Pro.
