Comprehensive Guide to Academic Support Services for ESOL Students (Full Transcript)

In this video, we refer to two acronyms, ESOL and ELL. If your first language is not English, this guide is for you. College is hard enough, so we appreciate the challenges of learning in a language other than your native tongue. We appreciate your efforts, and we can help. To access our services, first go to any of your classes, then click Academic Support at the top. Let's look at some services and how to use them if you are an ELL. 24-7 drop-in tutoring, written feedback, workshops, and pre-scheduled support. 24-7 drop-in is here whenever you need it. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no appointment needed. For English support, choose Writing, and then Writing for ELL from the menus. To get written feedback on your writing assignments, click Written Feedback and fill out the form. You'll most likely choose No, this is a new project to get started. Answer the questions on the form as best you can. Where it asks, where would you like the tutor to focus, be sure to choose Other, and write that you are an ESOL student. Workshops are live group presentations on a wide variety of topics. Hold your mouse over the titles to read about them. Click Book Now and Confirm to schedule yourself for the workshop. Would you like to talk to a fellow student about your classes? Choose Pre-Scheduled Support, and then Peer Tutoring. Choose a subject area and a subject, then use the calendar to make an appointment. If you feel you need help with study skills, time management, or other issues that come with just being a student, choose Pre-Scheduled Support and Academic Coaching to be matched with an ESOL coach. Be sure to let us know that you are an English Language Learner in the form.
