Speaker 1: All right for the last couple weeks in the Buff Nuggets newsletter I've been talking about using Canva for podcasting. Mind-blown, right? I didn't know that could be an option and it really stems from this example. This is a student example I found on Twitter. Someone shared this out. Really? Thank you. Thank you so much for doing that. It inspired me and It just it shows you the layers how they did this and this this Tutorial that I'm making right now is really just to show you how you can do it yourself You can see right here. I want to play it because it is really awesome So just at least a little bit of it. We'll start the play head over here.
Speaker 2: Have you ever been told something that devastated you?
Speaker 1: All right, there's the rain.
Speaker 2: A secret someone's been keeping from you that finally came to light.
Speaker 1: And so what you see here is multi-layering of audio. You have the student narration, you have this image here, and there is no video. Like this is like a podcast, okay? I know it's not on Spotify, it's not on Apple Podcasts, but this is something that students can use a tool that they already have access to, they can do this on a Chromebook, they can do this on a iPad, and make something and feel proud of it and share it with an authentic audience. So you can see the two different layers here. This one is, I think that's, that's the raindrops and this is like some background music and then the student audio is embedded in this image. So let's get started. I wanna show you how to do this. So in Canva, you can search for like a podcast cover. We just need really an image, but podcast covers are cool for this because they already look like you're gonna produce podcast content. I'm gonna go to, like this one. I like this one, this looks fun. Fun story with, I'm just gonna put with Brian Buffington, our buff. So I'm just gonna make this a little bit prettier. I could change the colors, but I don't wanna spend too much time there because that's not what I'm here for. Special episode 100. Oh, let's get this thing started. So how do you put audio on this? That's the first question. Did you know that built-in to Canva, If you go to uploads, you can record yourself. So we're gonna do that. And I don't wanna record camera. It will prompt you to record your camera. I don't want, I just want audio for this. So I'm gonna turn off camera. No camera. Boom, just like that. But it will take your user logo, your profile picture for Canvas. So whatever that is for that student, it's gonna show up. So if it's just a big goose egg or whatever, that's what's gonna pop up. So I have my picture of Chef Buff, that's going to be mine, I can move it down to the corner if I like, hit record, let's do an intro. Hey everybody, this is the number 100 episode of Fun Story with your host Brian Buffington, just call me Buff, and we're about to get this party started. What what? So I'm just going to do an intro there, I could just do a long, you know, keep the thing super simple. Five minutes, two minutes to talk about some kind of subject, but I'm just gonna keep it short. Save and exit. Hey, everybody, this is the number 100 episode of... And that audio actually is right here. It's in this little circle, there's a little play button there. And you're like, well, Brian, that's cool. We can actually, for some of you, that could be enough for a student. That is their podcast. Let's not overcomplicate this. But if you want those layering effects, let's dive in deeper. You need to go to duration down here to really see some of of these options, see how this works. So duration puts this in a more linear format, and you can start seeing these layers. So now, let's maybe try to add some audio. So let's go, did you know that there's some built-in audio in Canva? So you can go to apps, you can type in audio, you should be able to see it down here. If you can't, search for it. Since I've used it before, it's kind of close by. So I'm going to say happy, happy music, okay? So ukulele song, some of this has you know lyrical content, I don't really want that. Let me play it. I like this, I like that. So I'm going to just take that and drag it in my timeline. And I can spread that out a little bit and let's play it. Hey everybody, this is Nick Waite. Layers are, my music is way too loud, so if I click on the music layer, I can come up here to the volume and crank that on down. I mean, I might put that like 10. Let's try it now a fun story with your host Brian Buffington Just call might still be too loud, but here's the thing we can keep adding layers But if you want to get even crazier, you can add transitions or sound effects. So right here I could say cow sound a Cow maybe my episode is about cows and how methane gas is polluting the environment so
Speaker 3: So love it.
Speaker 1: So I can add that in there and actually you can do multi-layer so I can bring this down and I can put it in here, but I have to change the volume some too, right? But I can now, what I really should probably do now is let's add, let's see here. I'm actually going to duplicate this. See this thing? I'm going to duplicate that because I like that picture. So I'm going to right click, duplicate page, but I'm going to take off this audio. you had that audio. And so now I'm going to tell stretch this out. I think I could stretch it. Yeah, I'll stretch it out some and I could stretch out more later. So I got this clicked. Let me click on this. I'm going to go back to uploads and let's talk about cows. Record yourself. So hit cool. Oh, there it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, no camera. Oh, wait, wait, let's try this again. Oh, I just have to be patient. I'm not being patient. Be patient, Ryan. And that's trying to record my face. I don't want my face. So just that. Let's do it. All right. And what's more fun than cows? Because I love cheese. If it wasn't for cheese, you'd find me on my knees in a puddle of tears. Done. I'm going to hit save an exit let's see what this looks like all right let's start from over here I'm
Speaker 3: gonna put the cow sound over here let's go this party started what what actually
Speaker 1: this music is getting my nerves let's bring this back here and that's gonna fade out so we can't wear some fade options so don't forget we can make this It's as simple as we want. It could just be a picture and some audio. Podcast, elementary school, middle school, whatever, you're like, that's enough. And that gives students satisfaction. They're being the leaders of their own learning there. Get to it. If you wanna add these other things, you can. But did you know in audio effects, you can do a fade out? So I'll say, I wanna fade that out a few seconds. Let's see what this sounds like.
Speaker 3: This party started. What, what?
Speaker 1: What's more fun than cows? Because I love cheese. And I could put some more cow sounds. And when this whole thing is done, we're not sharing this to iTunes, we're not sharing this to Spotify. We're just, we could share it to our classroom, Google Classroom, students can provide, put this in their Google Classroom, maybe some other LMS that you might be using, or they're just getting the link, they're copying the link, they can say it's view only, anyone the link and view it. So I'm just going to copy link that only you can access. No, we don't want that. View only link. Here it is. That's the button we want. And anybody with that link, the teacher can view it. They can all listen to it together. Maybe there's a special like thing on the wall and there's QR codes and links and students can listen to each other's. What a great way to make something worth sharing in your classroom using Canva to make podcasts. I hope you enjoyed this.
