Speaker 1: Meet Dr. Panda. Dr. Panda is an excellent educator and is always looking for tools and resources to leverage for student success in their classroom. Dr. Panda is looking forward to the upcoming year, especially because their institution selected the Learning Management System, Canvas. Dr. Panda loves using the Canvas Gradebook to keep organized. Wherever they are in their Canvas course, Dr. Panda can check student grades by selecting Grades from the course navigation menu on the left side of their screen. In the Canvas Gradebook, Dr. Panda can see a full roster of students, each student's grade, and each assignment's submission status. If a student has submitted an assignment, a small icon appears. Once Dr. Panda provides feedback and grades the student's submission, the score will automatically populate from the SpeedGrader into the Canvas Gradebook. If the student completes a quiz that Canvas can grade automatically, the grade will populate into the Canvas Gradebook. Dr. Panda can always manually enter grades. Dr. Panda can always quickly see if a student's assignment is missing or late. If a student's assignment is missing, Canvas will highlight the box red. If the assignment was submitted after the due date, the box will highlight blue. Dr. Panda can customize these colors by selecting the View drop-down menu and then selecting Statuses. Also in the View drop-down menu, Dr. Panda can customize the gradebook arrangement and select Filters. Filters allow Dr. Panda to only look at certain sections of students or groups of assignments. By turning on the Notes column, Dr. Panda can include short notes that are not visible to students. This is a great way to keep track of accommodations, reminders, or any other piece of private information. Dr. Panda has a late policy and deducts a percentage of points for each day an assignment is late. The Canvas Gradebook helps them equitably enforce this policy. Dr. Panda selects the gear icon in the right corner of the gradebook. From here, Dr. Panda can automatically apply a grade for a missing assignment and automatically apply a deduction to late submissions. Dr. Panda loves to support students and provide interventions if necessary. When Dr. Panda's cursor hovers near an assignment name, the More Options menu dots appear. Dr. Panda's favorite feature, Message Students Who, allows them to quickly send messages to subsets of students based on their submission status or performance on an assignment. This helps Dr. Panda quickly and privately connect to struggling students, send reminders to only those students who need it, and even congratulate students performing well. When Dr. Panda wants to look at Tucker Panderson's performance in class, they simply select Tucker's name. Dr. Panda can look directly at Tucker's current grade and if Tucker is missing any assignments. Tucker scores on recent assignments as well as his activity compared to the rest of the class up here below. The Canvas Gradebook gives Dr. Panda flexibility, helps them focus their attention on the most current assignments, and provides multiple avenues to communicate with their students.
