+1 (831) 222-8398Speaker 1: Hi Little Mountain staff, I wanted to take a moment to show you a quick tool that could help your multilingual learners or students who are deaf or hard of hearing or families who are accessing the content to support your students. So I have in the past taken my videos from Screencastify and you can just right here choose publish to YouTube or you can download it and then upload it to YouTube, whatever works best for you. I sometimes find that just selecting the publish to YouTube option is less reliable and so last spring I downloaded and then re-uploaded the videos but again that takes up space on your computer so if that is an issue for you then you might just want to try this publish to YouTube video. So here I've got a video that I made last spring for my students and it's just a quick check your work video and so I wanted to just show you what you can show your students and families or if you're interested I'd be happy to make a tutorial video for kiddos and for families for you. So if the students are listening to the video and they need to see the words, so I'm playing the video now and if I just select closed captioning it automatically generates captioning that I don't have to type it out or do a transcript or anything like that. The nice thing too, as I've been hearing from families who don't speak English or kiddos who don't speak English yet who are newcomers, they're struggling to understand some of the content or even how to know what to do. Here is an option if the family or the child is able to select the settings button right here with the closed captioning on. So I can tell it's on with this little red line underneath. You can see that it's making the words here. So I'm going to go to subtitles and it's right now English auto-generated and I'm going to select auto-translate. So I'm going to come on down here. It's got, let's see, I just saw Gujarati, we've got Amharic, we have a couple of kiddos in our school who speak Japanese. So there's a wide array of languages here. So I'm going to select Spanish and then this is going to automatically translate for me into Spanish what I've said. So I'm still speaking English in the video.
Speaker 2: You can see here that it is pretty well translating what I'm saying in the video.
Speaker 1: I wanted to try one more language here, auto-translate. Let's try Ukrainian and see how that does. And here is the auto-translate option. So again, this is just a quick and easy tool that you or your students can use to just make the learning a little bit more accessible either for you or for your families. I don't know if you are uploading your videos to YouTube, but anyway, this is just one little trick. So happy Friday, I will see you around.
