Exploring Alternatives to PowerPoint: Prezi, Sway, Adobe Spark, and Movely (Full Transcript)

Speaker 1: When it comes to presentations, most of us will think of PowerPoint first. It is a powerful software and the market leader for a reason. You can't go wrong by choosing PowerPoint, but if you're looking for something a little different, there are a few other options you might want to consider. What makes Prezi different is that the slides are not in a set order, which you have to go through sequentially, and which cannot be varied as you go through the presentation. With Prezi, you have the flexibility to go to any part of your presentation at any time, allowing you to go with the flow and adapt a presentation on the fly, turning your presentation into more of a conversation than a presentation. You start with a top level overview of your presentation as a whole. You then zoom in to see more detail. There is a free version, but be aware that you can only work online and all of your presentations will be public. Sway is something a little different. It is mainly used for presenting on screen rather than to a live audience. You create and organise a number of content cards with text, images and video. You then choose a basic theme, select a few options and then leave the rest to Sway. Its built-in design engine will control how your Sway looks. The advantage is that you can create presentations very quickly and concentrate on the content. The other thing that makes Sway different is that the user can choose to view the Sway in three different ways. Vertical mode looks like a modern website and allows the user to scroll down through the content. Horizontal mode allows the user to scroll horizontally through the content. And in presentation mode the user sees the content as a series of slides. Adobe Spark is a free online design, video and storytelling tool. You can create animated presentations with Spark video using text, icons, images and video. You can add your own narration to each slide and music to your overall presentation. It is simple to use as it is organised as a series of familiar slides. Movely allows you to create animated videos, explainer videos, video presentations and animated infographics. It has a number of templates and you can add your own text, images and videos as well as sounds, music and narration. Want to know more?
