Speaker 1: Pay attention to this scene in Shazam 2019.
Speaker 2: Did you see the mistake? If you see it, comment your answer below. Hello guys and welcome back to WBBF, and today we're going to talk about continuity. Continuity errors are everywhere, even in Hollywood films, pero hindi natin sila napapansin agad because we are so invested sa story and being carried along with the performance of the actors. Usually, napapansin nalang natin ito when someone pointed it out or pag pinapanood nalang natin siya ulit. Now the question is, importante ba ito? Is this kind of mistake can affect the success of the film? Well, there might be a debate about it, if it does matter or not, but to be honest, it's not that a big deal. Unless sobrang halatay niya to the point na nandi-distract na tayo habang nanonood. That's why great story matters. Pag maganda ang story natin and we have great actors, things like continuity can be easily forgiven. Continuity never affects the success of the film. Wala diba? Usually, it's because of a bad story. And as long as the scene works, continuity doesn't matter. Let's see some more mistakes from Hollywood movies. Mad Max Fury Road 2015. Notice how messy these cables are. But on the next shot, it's probably one of the best cable management we will see. How about this one? Did you see it? Those are film crews right there. Dark Knight 2008. Okay, before everything, that's another film crew right there. That's a camera crew. That's crazy. On the next shot, the position of the hand changed and the crack disappeared. And it keeps happening throughout the scene. Now You See Me 2013. Pay attention to these people walking from behind. On the next shot, they also disappeared. Now you see it. Now you don't. Almost every movie has a problem with continuity. Maybe even the last one nakakatapos mo lang panoorin. And continuity errors usually happens during multiple takes. Pag maraming beses or paulit-ulit natin sinushoot ang isang scene, sometimes things are starting to change. Like the makeup of the actors, the hair, the lighting, the wardrobes, the weather, and even our moods. We get tired, naiinis tayo, nape-pressure, at kung ano-ano pa. Anything na inconsistent is a continuity error. My advice is, take your time during pre-production. But a well-planned shoot will save us from a lot of problems, not just in editing, but in the long run. This is the kind of mistake na kahit gaano ka kagaling, or gaano ka kadetail-oriented, there's always a chance na maya-encounter mo yung mga ganitong bagay. I am... inevitable. And I...
Speaker 3: am... Iron Man.
Speaker 2: That's why big productions always have script supervisors. These are the people that monitor that kind of stuff. But don't be intimidated with the term. But don't be intimidated with the term. Dahil kung nagsisimula ka pa lang, script supervisor can just be your friend or yung tropa mo lang, or kahit yung nakakabata mo lang nakapatid. Just tell them kung anong gagawin nila, and I'm sure they'll be happy to help you out. Bakit? Dahil unang-una, hindi naman itong focus nila. At kung mapansin ba nila, masi paprioritize ang director ang performance, because we can forgive continuity errors, pero bad acting? This is a very subjective topic, but it matters or not. As a filmmaker, our job is to tell a great story. As long as people understand it and love it, we will do just fine. Pero siyempre, hanggat may iwasan natin yung mga ganitong pagkakamali, it's better.
Speaker 4: Maybe I'm one of those people that has always wanted to do it, but it's like a pipe dream.
Speaker 2: But if we don't, don't feel bad. Because like I said, even Hollywood and big-budgeted movies are not exempted to it. Though I hope you won't make this as an excuse to keep having these kind of mistakes, because less mistakes is better.
Speaker 3: Hey. Don't ever let somebody tell you, you can't do something. Not even me. Alright? Alright. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you, you can't do it. You want something? Go get it. Period. And that's it.
