Speaker 1: The night is upon us, here in my hand is the Zoom H1n, and that's all what we're using in this video. So let's head out into the night of Osaka. Oh my god, hello. Now if you're wondering what the name of this park is, then you should check out the Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park. And here's already our first sound, haven't recorded a fountain yet. I think when you're recording water noise, how can I explain this? Sometimes you listen to water and you think, oh this is just white noise, so how can you make even water sound like it is actually water, right, not just a... So I think that's a really interesting sound here, and sometimes when you record water it's quite constant, but actually this one is not, and I want to show you what I mean. You can see how the level changes, right, and that's because how the water drops. Now if we are too high with the levels, what would happen is, you see, starting to clip the audio. This is already, so now we go a little bit, if we would go higher like this, what is the setting here? We're already at 8 or 9, this is too high, so we don't need to go so high, so this is fine here. That was nice, now let's listen to this audio. So if you want to know what is the setting right now, so we're recording between minus 12 and minus 6, and the setting on the Zoom H1n is 7.5, so now let's move on and see what else we can find. And this is a really nice park, and we even have windmills here, let's check them out. Oh, I have some bad news, the windmill park is closed, but look at this beautiful view here with the ducks in the water.

Speaker 2: The lady over there is feeding the ducks. Oh, nice one.

Speaker 1: So I can't record this, because the man is talking, and it's a conversation, and I don't record conversations, so I just have to wait a little bit and hope that he doesn't say anything. Well that would have been nice to record, but we can't have it all, but maybe I could ask him to be quiet. Do I have the guts? I do, I do.

Speaker 2: Just one minute. Yes, thank you very much.

Speaker 1: If you need something, you have to ask for it sometimes. Hello.

Speaker 2: Konnichiwa.

Speaker 1: Konbanwa.

Speaker 2: Konbanwa.

Speaker 1: Hi. Ah, this is great here, look at the lights. Wow, look at this one. I think that's pretty cool. Huh? Oh, do you hear that sound? That click and the cluck. Golf, let's record that. So I'm setting up the tripod for this, then I have a little bit more control over the zoom H1N and also the setting. I'm very interested to see how it looks like. There are people who hit the ball harder, some a little bit softer. Yeah, mine is 32. If I go up right now, yeah. Just, you know, I'll just show you this right now. So this is 10, like this is full blast. Let me just record this really quick, and I personally wouldn't record like this, but just listen, this is 10. Now, I personally wouldn't record like this, it's just too high. So right now I'm on 7, between 8 and 7. Let me listen really quick. Yeah, this is how I would record. So let's listen to this audio really quick, the airplane just left. Okay, wow, this is unique. Okay, I'm ready, I'm set. Now let's listen to this. So I think there's a lot going on, right? We have the people playing golf, we have airplanes. But there was one interesting example why I have my levels lower. The motorbike passed by. Now imagine I'm standing here, I have my level at 10 or maybe even higher, depending on the recorder, and then I can't move quick enough to adjust the gain, right? And then this audio could have been distorted on a 24-bit recorder. But since I have the level low, I think we got a really nice recording. Now this is an amazing place, just look around you. Hundreds of apartments, some people walking, jogging. I think we should start recording this area here. And let's see how that sounds like and what I can do within Zoom H1n. It starts to rain, feel the dripping. Okay, I think the rain is here. It has arrived. So what I do now is I think I go up there.

Speaker 2: This is nice.

Speaker 1: Let's see what we can do with this recording. So what do we have? I'm at 7 right now. I might go a little lower. All right. So now let me raise the gain to, let's say 10. This is how it sounds like on the highest. And I would go lower. Of course, now you can think, is this even noise or is this the light rain, right? Because now the rain covers up the noise. And now I lower the gain until I don't hear this hiss anymore. And what do we have? 7. Seems too low for some, but for me it's perfect. Now in a double check, I would have gone maybe a little bit lower. And the reason why is because it is such a quiet area and there is no need for me to raise the gain until I create soft noise on something like the Zoom H1n. It is a fantastic device. It is very affordable. And it's a great recorder to start out with field recording.

Speaker 2: I think we have a catfight here. We have a cricket here. It's nice to have just the sound of one cricket. I think we got enough sound for tonight. Thank you so much for watching and I can't wait to see you in our next video. Transcribed by https://otter.ai
