+1 (831) 222-8398Speaker 1: In this video, you're going to know what it is like to study in Singapore and how you can apply. So, if you want to contact the person who's featuring in this video, the Facebook groups are down below. You can check them out. This is a five-part series. So don't forget to check out the other four parts. Let's get into the video. Hey guys, welcome to another video. This is a continuation of the five-part series which I'm doing with Siddhant who's studying at NTU. In this video, we are going to talk about scholarship opportunities in Singapore and in the US. So, starting from Singapore, what opportunities are available? Can you apply to external scholarships or can even a company fund you?
Speaker 2: Yeah, so the provisions are there for the scholarship. The most one that most of the students opt for is the subsidized one. So as I told you in the video just before this, so there are two kinds of subsidized and non-subsidized. In non-subsidized, you don't have any obligations for the government. You just study, you can go back home, you can work there or anything up to you. In subsidized one, the government subsidizes study and after that, after your studies, you'll have to work for three years with them. That is one kind. In that, you get 50% rebate of your tuition fee.
Speaker 1: So as you mentioned before that you are paying half of the money you would have paid, right?
Speaker 2: Correct. Other one is company funded. So it's irrespective of the college, who the money comes from as long as they get the fee, so it's fine. The other one is for the Asian people. The Asian countries, they get the scholarship. There are a lot of scholarship opportunities for them. But since India doesn't come in there, so I couldn't apply for that. And yes, Chinese student gets the most scholarship because it's a Chinese university. So yeah, a lot of scholarship opportunities are for them.
Speaker 1: And is it like that, that do you have somebody, some people who have been funded by companies there?
Speaker 2: Not that I know of.
Speaker 1: Not that I know.
Speaker 2: How many students are in your batch? So mine, talk about electronics, we have 43 people only. And yeah, that's the class strength.
Speaker 1: And what would be the ratio of the class?
Speaker 2: You mean girls to boys?
Speaker 1: Girls to boys, like country wise, how many Indians are there? How many Chinese, Singapore students are there, etc.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. So in my class in electronics, we just have two nationalities that I know of, majorly one is Indian and the other is Chinese. So we Indians are just five of them. And rest are all Chinese students.
Speaker 1: And I think that's good. Like for example, talking about the scholarship opportunities here, we do have scholarships, but it comes in the form of funding, like TAship, RSHip, I'm guessing you don't have that.
Speaker 2: No, we don't. Only the PhD student can do that.
Speaker 1: So for US master's students can do teaching assistantships and research assistantships as well. And that is a form of funding, you get full fee waiver, and you get a stipend of around 15, 16, even $2,000, even $3,000 if you're living in Boston area, which is a very, very good amount for like a student to survive initially. Moreover, there's company funding scholarships as well. There's some scholarships that you can apply on just websites. It's a totally different scenario. Fulbright scholarships is there, which is given to very, very smart people, which is a full, like your country will be sponsoring you to study in the US and you want to like you, they'll want you to come back as soon as you can. Moving on the student, like Indian to international ratio or Indian to other students ratio. There are a lot of Indians, I would say CS is one of the branches where there's the best ratio like Indians to other students is, it's like very equal, equalitarian there. Whereas in my case, we have more Indians in my batch than Americans. In mechanical as well, there is more Indians than other countries, I would say.
Speaker 2: Okay. Ours one, mostly we get the exchange students. They are a lot of exchange students from Sweden, especially Lund University. We get lots from there because, and the, not like the outer technical part, there are a lot of students from the other countries, but in the technical field, that means the Tripoli department, we have mostly Indian and Chinese students.
Speaker 1: Okay. Interesting. So, do you have anything like a portal or something where you can apply for scholarships for Singapore?
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's available on the website. So when you go for select, I mean, when you search for your course and all, they'll indicate, they'll have a side screen where you can see the scholarship opportunities, if there is any or whatever.
Speaker 1: I'm going to link that website in the description, at least for NTU, because it comes from NTU and you can check that out. Okay. This is the end of the second part of this video, which was scholarship opportunities in Singapore and US. Let's move on to the third video. It'll be a playlist. Go watch it for cost of living and part-time jobs.
