+1 (831) 222-8398[00:00:00] Speaker 1: I'm in Corpus Christi, Texas, where the former Uvalde school police officer, Adrian Gonzalez, is on trial. He's charged with 29 counts of child endangerment. And this all stems from the failed police response at Robb Elementary back in 2022, that school shooting that killed 19 children and two adults. And what the prosecutors here are alleging is that he failed to act, that he was the first officer on scene, that he had opportunity to challenge the shooter, and yet he did not. This is going to be a very difficult and emotional few weeks for family members, this community, and parents who are all going to be watching this trial. Law enforcement is also keeping an eye on this trial, because if there's a conviction here, it'll be unprecedented. It'll be the first time a police officer has been convicted of something like this, a failure to act. And it could change the way officers train. It could change the way they respond to active shooters. And ultimately, it could hold them responsible in a very new way that we have not seen before. And so all of that certainly is very concerning for law enforcement as well. Tuesday is just day one, and we've already heard a lot of emotional testimony. And as the days go by, we're going to hear a lot more. And there's no doubt that this was a failed response by law enforcement, but now this jury needs to decide if it was criminal.
