Speaker 1: What's insane is that they say that it's between half a billion and trillion dollars every single year goes into money laundering. So, let's say you're a politician that's receiving a bribe. What politician are you talking about? Ha ha ha ha ha. Wouldn't you like to know? My name is Jackie, and I am an anti-money laundering analyst. I had no idea this job existed, being 100% honest. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a realtor, and then that didn't work out when I found out. It was not like I was living in a home improvement show. So, what we're really doing is transaction laundering. So, let's say you're a financial institution, and you are trying to prevent anything nefarious inside of your systems. We're taking a look and seeing if there's anything that's unusual. And so, we're not the people that are making the arrests, but we are the people that are bringing forth the evidence to see if there's an actual crime going on. When I was in my final year of college, I got sent to a recruiter. They came forward with this job. It sounded interesting. I felt like I was going to be somewhat of a detective without being part of the police, doing a lot of investigative work. At the beginning, I was really talking to that recruiter through LinkedIn a lot. Through her, I was able to get that face-to-face interactions with a lot of managers and people on my team. I had no idea what I was signing up for, but now I can't imagine doing anything different. I'm part of the team that is in charge of our procedures. I'm the person that helps people know how to detect the money laundering, right? So, if there is a new method that criminals perhaps are using, then I'm going to step in and be like, okay, this is the method. This is something we need to be looking out for. So, what these criminals end up doing in order to launder the money is they take this money that's obtained from an illegal crime, and they use unusual transaction patterns to be able to clean it, to make it look like it's legitimately obtained. And it could literally just be one person on the street, but it is also criminal organizations as well, yeah. The mafia could be involved. It depends on where you're at, but very possible. When I got the opportunity to conduct training for my fellow peers, it was more of a team lead position. So, I'm the type of person that really enjoys helping other people. That was really the moment for me that I felt like this is where I'm supposed to be. And within three years, I have moved up twice now. So, I do lists anytime I get promoted on LinkedIn. You really want to be able to show, okay, I can actually progress, I can actually make a difference, and I can actually show a level of aptitude, and my role will reflect that every time I show that on LinkedIn. If you are somebody that likes excitement and is a big fan of investigating things, then this might be the job for you. What's really cool is that anytime that I've helped recruiters recruit for our firm, there's a QR code system on LinkedIn that if you just press the button, it'll instantly show your profile to other people, and they will instantly connect their profile to your profile. So, you establish that connection, right? And through that, we've been able to send each other resumes, establish any type of conversation that we've had. And it was really helpful, especially at recruiting events, because if you're getting 200 people in in your booth, right, rather than a piece of paper that you might lose, now I have a solid link, and they're able to connect with me anytime. If they have any follow-up questions, we can always talk further later. The sanctity of the financial system is something that a lot of people depend on. And you want to know that your money is being protected, but there's people out there that are not protecting your money that are using it for nefarious means. When I got the job, I knew absolutely nothing about this field. I didn't even know it existed. What you need to know at the start of your career is that you don't need to know everything. As long as you have the aptitude and the excitement to try it, something's going to stick for you.
