Speaker 1: Hey everyone and welcome to Academy of Mine. Today we're going to learn how to attach subtitles to a video. Subtitles are important for content accessibility and making sure that all your customers have the best chance of learning with video. For example, let's say you're offering compliance training to a large number of blue collar workers who train in construction sites, loud factories, and other non-isolated environments that are filled with distractions. These customers could highly benefit from subtitles. Some people, regardless of environment, just prefer reading captions alongside a video as well. Adding subtitles to your videos is possible thanks to VTT files, which are a popular subtitle and caption file format on the web. So to create subtitles for your video, you obviously need a video first, and to upload a video, first go to your admin dashboard, and then navigate to Courses, Video, and click Create Video Module. Here's where you will upload a video directly. You can upload a video using YouTube or Vimeo as well, but then you will not be able to create subtitles inside of our platform like I'm showing you today. Instead, you would have to create captions for the video on their platform. So once your video upload is complete, fill out your metadata like the title and description the way you would like it, and now it's time to create the VTT file. The first step in creating a VTT file is opening up Notepad or a similar text file creator on your computer. On the very first line, you want to write WebVTT, that is W-E-B-V-T-T. Leave the second line blank. On the third line is where you're going to add a unique identifier, which can be text or number. By default though, it's best to just use numbers and start with the number 1. On the fourth line, the time for the first cue has to be specified. This is the time slot in the video at which the text is to be shown. For example, for a first cue starting at 1 second and ending at 5 seconds, it would be written like this. Don't get overwhelmed at the format because it's all written down in our documentation for you to easily copy and paste, and once you have the first cue down, you can just copy and paste that over to create the second, third, and so forth very quickly. On the next line, you want to write the caption or text for this cue that will be running during the allocated time slot. To add another line of text for a new cue, press enter so you're leaving a blank line and start with the second identifier. You could also, starting with number 1 and ending at the text, just copy and paste this whole section, and paste it and change the number 1 to 2, and then change the timestamps as well as the caption to relay whatever you'd like. You can duplicate this process and make as many subtitles as you like, as long as they're not going over your video's timeline. So before saving the VTT file, just copy the text and drop it into a VTT validator like quuz.org and make sure everything checks out like this. Now save the file and then change the .txt file format to .vtt. Now all you have to do is upload it into the video. And now after adding the video as a module into this course, you can see the subtitles are working correctly. Thanks so much everyone, I hope this helps, and make sure to subscribe for more amazing LMS content coming directly from Academy of Mind.
