How to Create and Manage Custom Words in mModal Voice Dictation (Full Transcript)

Speaker 1: In this video, I'm going to give you an example of how to create a new custom word in mModal voice dictation. This might be if you have a proper name for a particular word that mModal continues to not get right, so we're going to make a custom word which it can then recognize when you dictate it in the future. Go ahead and click on the mModal bar. It should have your name here if you're logged in. Click on the bar and you will see this menu appear and choose the dictionary option. In the new window that appears, notice there are different categories for the custom words that you're making. Here we can see a bunch of the provider names that I created so that mModal could pronounce them correctly. The different categories cause mModal to apply different artificial intelligence and logic to decide how to use the word when you dictate it. In this case, we're going to make a new word, so I'm going to click on add and a new box pops up. In this case, I'm going to add the word Kanosh, which is a small town in southern Utah. Because of that, this is a location and I'm going to apply that setting. Notice that after I wrote it, this is how mModal thinks phonetically Kanosh is going to be pronounced. And that might be correct, but I still want it to recognize when I pronounce it the way I'm going to say it. So once I've typed the word in, click change and this window appears. Click over instead to the record pronunciation and now click the record button on your microphone and say the word Kanosh. You can now see that this is phonetically how eClinical works. I'm sorry, mModal thinks I say Kanosh. If I'm not happy with it or I mispronounce it, I can try it again until I have it how I want. I'm going to hit OK, save, and now I'm going to close it and we can try it out. I have a friend who grew up in the town of Kanosh. And there you can see that it worked correctly and mModal should now recognize it in any of my dictations. If I decide that I need to change it or get rid of it, it's the same process. Go back to the dictionary command, find the word, in this case I need to go to locations, and there is Kanosh. If I click the X on here, I can delete it and it is gone. Notice that there are a couple of these that have locks. These that have locks are words which have been added administratively to the entire catalog for all of the mModal users in our clinic. For example, most of the patient or provider names have locks by them. These you typically can't delete, but you can go in and change the pronunciation if you need to. So hopefully you find that to be beneficial. There's also one other example here called excluded words where I might be saying something and eClinicalWorks always assigns it the wrong word or phrase and I don't ever want it to do that. I can actually use the same process to make a word that eClinical, I'm sorry, that mModal will never recognize. Probably not a common scenario, but if you find it messing up regularly on the same word or phrase you use a lot, this might be something to consider.
