Today we will be talking about Wordfast Pro. So Wordfast have several tools that are very useful to translators and today we will be looking at the CAD tool which is called Wordfast Pro. So Wordfast Pro which has this icon is now on version 7 of it and it is a widely used translation tool. Actually it's been used for many years by the biggest translation service provider in the world which is TransPerfect. So one thing special about Wordfast Pro is it doesn't matter if you own a Mac or if you own a Windows PC or if you are using a distro of Linux like Ubuntu, Wordfast Pro will run on it. You just need to download the specific program that will work for you. So let's have a peek to see how it looks. So when you are translating this is how Wordfast Pro looks. One thing that stands out with Wordfast Pro is that it is fairly simple. And you can see things have big buttons, the menus have big buttons and as you translate you will get suggestions at the bottom here and and here and on the right hand side you can see how your translated text will look in the future as you are translating it. So let's see for example here is how my original document looks like. OK. So here it's in English. All right. So that's how it looks like. And Wordfast Pro as I'm translating uses this feature which is called live preview. And I can see here how it looks while I am translating it. And I can actively see where I am. For example here I am in this section which is trying to translate this sentence on the left. This is a beginner's tutorial. And this is located here. Now if I click on the next sentence. Well that will bring me here to overview. All right. Visão geral in Portuguese. Another cool feature about Wordfast Pro is that it enables you to chain files. So let's say that a customer gives you two or three files to translate and they all relate to the same. For example it's a company and they're selling a product and all these files relate to the same product. There are things that will be similar across these different documents. And maybe you would want to be able to see all of them at the same time to be able to translate in a way that will be consistent across these documents. So you can do that in Wordfast Pro with a feature that is called chain files. So here I have two files I have selected. Let's chain them. And now once they are chained I am here in the editor which is the area where we are translating. And I can see that by the preview I can see that here I have a very small document that has barely anything in it. And if I click on the sentence that will belong to the other document. Well that brings me to there. But there are all the sentences one underneath the other so I have them all in the same place so that helps me to translate in a way that is consistent and gives me this sort of overall view which is very useful. So here's another feature. Another interesting thing to look out with Wordfast Pro is the compatibility. Say if you want to collaborate with other people that are translating and maybe they use the same CAT tool as you, in this case Wordfast Pro or maybe they use a different CAT tool. tool. So if they use the same CAD tool as you and you want them for example to review your work you can use this feature here import and export package that will create what are called GLP package. They look like this GLP but if you want to collaborate with someone that is using SDL Trados you can also import and export SDL Trados studio packages which look like this and you have a button for this so import and export an SDL package. So regarding pricing Wordfast Pro works with three-year licenses so the tool will be licensed for three years when the license run out if you don't want to purchase it anymore you will still be able to use Wordfast Pro but only on very small documents so you will have some limitations but it the tool will still work. However the pricing of Wordfast Pro is very small so you will have some limitations but the tool will still work. The pricing strategy is quite interesting so if you look here so you buy it so the full license for 460 US dollars that's the price at the moment of making this video this license runs for you for three years and when you renew you will be paying half the price that Wordfast Pro will be sold at at the moment when you are renewing so that's very good so when you're doing your renewal you get another three years but at half the price at what Wordfast is sold at at the moment so if in 2025 when you renew Wordfast Pro is still 460 dollars well you will be paying 230 and there is a discount that is very important for all people that work and translate in countries with developing economies and what happens is they get a 50% discount and so here is how it works. If you are going to purchase from a country that qualifies instead of paying 460 dollars you will be paying half of that 50% discount which will be 230 US dollars and when you will come on to renewing the software for another three years well you will pay again 50% discount on that so let's say that in 2025 the retail price for Wordfast is still 460 dollars for people living in countries with developing economies it will be 230 dollars so hence their renewal will be 50% of that which will be 115 euros for three years. Wordfast official training is also very affordable if you want four hours beginners training well you will only have to pay 18 US dollars and if you attend training before purchasing you will get a discount on your purchase as well.
