Speaker 1: Hello everyone it's Josh here from Lovers Designs. This week on Getting Into It with Lovers Designs we are going to cover why production schedules are an essential piece of the production process. By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail. A world-renowned quote said by Benjamin Franklin that remains true for video production. To ensure a top quality project hard work must be put in at the pre-production phase to ensure a smooth and effective production process. This is where the production schedule comes in. So what is a production schedule? When we produce a live action video it's essential to know what it is that we're filming before we actually show up at the shoot location. This prevents us from wasting time on the day of the shoot and allows us to focus purely on getting the best content that can be captured on the day. To ensure issues are avoided the team will agree on and work from a document called the production schedule which will contain all the relevant information of the project to leave no room for confusion. There are a number of elements in the document that if not pre-planned can quickly eat up a huge portion of time on shoot day which will result in poor use of time and budget. Every location is unique and will require different considerations but I will discuss some of the common elements today. Number one, parking. If there isn't anywhere to park or even to pull up it has a huge impact on the timing of the day. We may need to be assigned a space, given a pass or have to use a staff entrance but making sure we know all these things before the shoot is essential. Number two, security. It is best to ensure that we have the main contact for the day and all security passes and credentials are ready for arrival. This will curb any time-wasting hang-ups with security on the day. Number three, talent. When filming people they should know that they are being filmed and if they are talking to the camera they should also know what they are going to say which has been pre-approved by department heads. One of the biggest time sinks on a location shoot is getting people in the right place at the right times and this should be avoided at all costs. Number four, scripts. When filming interviews you can either do it in a natural interview style or alternatively you can use a teleprompter with a pre-written and pre-agreed series of soundbites. If this is not agreed upon before shoot day, huge amount of times will be wasted organizing documents. Number five, shot lists and timing. The production schedule will include a detailed shot list with allocated timing so that everyone knows when they will be needed. It also allows the management of expectations on the amount of content that can be captured on the day. Hopefully all of the points raised seem like common sense so it's fairly easy to tell that without ironing out these details, huge amount of time will be wasted on the day trying to figure out things on the move. For the sake of a few additional hours to establish the key points and put the document together, not only can the end product be indefinitely better but it can also save a huge amount of wasted time, resources and money. Thank you very much for taking the time to watch the video. I hope you found it both informative and engaging. Until next time.
