Speaker 1: Presenting qualitative data isn't easy however in this video I'm going to present you a simple step-by-step framework that you'll be able to repeat time and time again to really well present your qualitative data formatted appropriately so that you can publish more research papers. So let's dive right into it. If you're new here my name is Marek Kiczkowek and I run Academic English Now where I help PhD students and researchers regularly write research papers for top journals in the field and in this video I wanted to show you step-by-step how you need to present qualitative data appropriately if you want your paper to be published in really good journals. And these tips are really based on a lot of my own personal experience of doing qualitative studies and presenting them in research papers and publishing those research papers but also on reading literally hundreds of research papers of my clients and advising them on how they should appropriately present qualitative data so that they can get their papers published. And following this advice will allow you to publish your papers or maybe write a better thesis if you are writing a thesis. So how do we do that? Well there is a very simple framework that you need to follow and this works regardless of the field that you're in. And the first element of that framework is introducing the topic So before you present us any data you need to introduce that topic or that data that you're going to be talking about. And this could be something like several participants commented that online education can be boring just making stuff up. So you're introducing the topic in here And then what we're going to do below is we're going to present evidence. So that's the second element of the framework. Presenting evidence and presenting quotes from those participants that actually said this about online education. And then we need some sort of summary or some sort of comment about this data. So we want to say something like this data clearly shows or indicates that and tell us a little bit more about this data that we've just seen. And then you want to transition to the following topic and then introduce it again. How do you transition to the following topic? Well you want to use simply linking words for example. So you could say on the other hand one of the participants emphasized that education online can be much more interesting and engaging. And then again you give the quote of the participants and then you comment on it. And then maybe you explain something like this clearly shows that there is a divergence of views between participants when it comes to online education. So to recap the way to present qualitative results in your study not to discuss them and I'll look at that in another video how to discuss qualitative data but just how to present them is first you introduce that piece of data or that specific topic that you're going to be talking about in one or two sentences and then you present evidence. This is very important presenting evidence for that statement in a form of quotes. And then you somehow summarize or comment on that evidence and then you transition into the following topic or into the following data extracts. And if you use this simple framework first of all it will be so much easier to present qualitative data because you'll know exactly what you need to do and it's a very repetitive repeatable framework. And also it will be much easier to publish your data in really really good journals.
