Navigating College Enrollment: A Counselor's Guide to Success at Ohlone College (Full Transcript)

Speaker 1: Ever since I was a young girl, I always knew that I loved helping others, and that's why I went to counseling. I love my job. When a student is first applying for college, there's a lot of fear involved in the process. They're not sure how to get started, where to go for help, who to turn to, and so the best thing to do is to come in and see a counselor to get help. There are five easy steps to enroll at Ohlone College. Step one of the enrollment process is to apply. You can either apply online by visiting our website or by completing a paper application and submitting it to the Office of Admissions and Records. You'll receive your Ohlone ID number via email one to two days after completing this step. Step two is to take the placement test. Take the placement test seriously. Doing your best will save you time and money. Your placement test result will determine which courses you're eligible to enroll. Retesting is limited, so do your best the first time. It's very important to study and review before the test to help improve your results. Reservation for testing is required. You're also required to have a valid photo ID and Ohlone ID number. The placement center is located in building seven on the second floor. Be sure to visit the website for information regarding test dates, reservation, and study guides. Step three of the enrollment process is to complete orientation and receive counseling. Attend an in-person orientation session. Counselors and peer mentors will assist you with setting up your WebAdvisor account, help you select your classes, and provide you tips on how you can be successful in college. If you've taken high school classes through 2 plus 2 program, you may already have earned college credit, so be sure to mention that to your counselor. Step four of the registration process is to register for classes. You can register for classes online through WebAdvisor account. Registration instructions are available online. If a class is filled, use WebAdvisor to join the wait list, and be sure to attend the first day of classes. Step five is to pay for your classes. You must pay for your classes within five days of registration. You have several options to pay. Pay online using a credit card through WebAdvisor, pay by check by using the Dropbox, or you can pay by cash, check, credit card at a cashier's office. It's that easy. Five easy steps to enroll.
