Speaker 1: Welcome. In today's video, I will be discussing the second step in the immigrant visa process, the National Visa Center. Thank you for joining us today. In today's video, I'll be discussing the second step in the immigrant visa process, and that is dealing with the National Visa Center. My name is Jeremy Richards, if you haven't already watched our videos before, and I am an immigration lawyer with the Law Offices of Richards & Drusick, where we specialize in practicing U.S. immigration law. We have a specific focus on helping Canadians to live and work in the United States. We have offices in Toronto, Canada, and in Buffalo, New York. The second step in the immigrant visa process, after your I-130 petition is approved, is to deal with what is called the National Visa Center. The National Visa Center is the central processing agency for all immigrant visa cases filed worldwide. After USCIS approves the initial I-130 petition, it will forward that information along to the National Visa Center, along with the supporting evidence. The National Visa Center will then go through a process of collecting the documents that are required in order to process the final step, the third step, with the consulate. And if you're Canadian, that happens in Montreal, Canada. The National Visa Center has specific requirements when they collect these documents. So it's very important that the quality is a high quality and a legible quality, that the way it's scanned in and presented meets the requirements of the NVC. Also, it is required that in addition to these documents being legible, that there is proof of financial support as well. That is one of the requirements of the National Visa Center. They're going to verify that the financial means are in place. If the sponsor doesn't meet the financial requirements, they're going to want to verify that there is a co-sponsor that meets those requirements. In addition, they're going to want to make sure that the person has a domicile in the United States or the intent to domicile in the United States after approval of the immigrant visa. The National Visa Center will collect all of these documents. They will do their verification and make sure the proper birth certificates are included, the proper marriage certificates are included. If there is a divorce, the divorce decrees are included, as well as the financial support documentation. Once NVC has performed their review of these documents and everything is in order, they will then notify the consulate in Montreal. And then Montreal will then begin with the third and final step of the process for the immigrant visa interview. If you have any questions about the second step in the immigrant visa process or working with the National Visa Center, we work with the National Visa Center on a regular basis and have many Canadian clients and clients all over the world that we help with this process.
