Speaker 1: Hello, I'm Nakayla Cook, Executive Director of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, or PCORI. PCORI's strategic plan provides a bold vision for addressing the health and healthcare challenges that are facing the nation, and guides our funding decisions and our other work over the coming years. The plan reflects a holistic approach to generating and promoting the use of patient-centered evidence that is central to our mission and supports a more patient-centered healthcare system. The strategic plan has been shaped by extensive input from many PCORI stakeholders, and guided by the thoughtful leadership of our Board of Governors, representing stakeholders from across the healthcare community. The heart of the plan are five ambitious long-term goals, the National Priorities for Health. These interconnected and mutually reinforcing goals focus on making an impact and driving our research funding and other initiatives to improve patient care and health outcomes. Achieving health equity is one of the five priorities, and also is woven throughout the plan. One way we'll work toward achieving these priorities is through our research agenda that will provide the framework for our funding of patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research, designed to provide the evidence that's needed to help patients, caregivers, and all stakeholders make better informed decisions about their health and healthcare. In addition to comparative clinical effectiveness research funding, the plan also captures our continuing commitment to advancing three key areas of our work. The first is meaningful engagement with patients and communities to generate research that is more likely to be useful, relevant, and trustworthy. Second, is timely and effective dissemination and implementation of PCORI-funded research results to ensure that they truly can help those who need them to make better informed health decisions. And thirdly, building infrastructure of comparative clinical effectiveness research to improve its research and methods and provide the tools to support more efficient, less costly research, and strengthen the workforce and delivery systems that are at the heart of patient care. A key element of the plan is the acknowledgement of the many factors that influence a person's health across all the places where we live, work, learn, and play. In this way, the plan will strengthen our focus on outcomes and on addressing our country's major health challenges. In the plan, we also reaffirm our commitment to seeking meaningful stakeholder engagement to guide our activities. By doing so, we will continue to be nimble and responsive to the evolving healthcare landscape. To be successful, we will also seek new partnerships, strengthen existing relationships, and develop enhanced engagement approaches to guide our work. I invite you to read the plan and to stay engaged with us as we implement the plan and assess our progress. You can read the strategic plan in detail on our website. Thank you for joining us on this historic journey.
