Speaker 1: Hello, I'd like to welcome you to the Administration of Justice registration session for continuing students. If you're a new student and this will be your first semester at Pima Community College, I recommend you watch the video specifically designed for students who are just starting out on their academic journey at Pima Community College. There are three members of the Administration of Justice advising team. Tanya Pruser, Michelle Savage, and Elisa Sadal. Tanya works with students whose last names begin with the letters A through H. Michelle works with students whose last names begin with the letters I through Q. And Elisa Sadal works with the students whose last names begin R through Z. One way that you can connect with your advisors is using Pima Connect. Pima Connect provides you with a central location to access your success network that includes your program advisor, instructors, counselors, and any other personnel that had been assigned to your success team. You can even schedule an appointment with your advisor using this site. To access it, go into your My Pima account, select the student tab, an academics option, and scroll down to the box with Pima Connect. You'll find your advisor's appointment schedule in the network section. Today's registration session is specifically for students who are pursuing the Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Administration of Justice Studies or the Associate of Applied Science in Justice Professions with either an AJS or Law Enforcement concentration. Each of these programs will have the required general education, core, and support courses. If your intent is to participate solely in the Law Enforcement Academy, EMT, paramedic, or finer science programs, please contact your assigned program advisor. The Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts with an Administration of Justice concentration is a program designed to transfer to the university with 100% of your general education requirements complete and your freshman and sophomore level core and support courses completed. This will allow you to enter the university as a junior, which means that you will only have your junior and senior year to complete at the university to be awarded a bachelor's degree. This program can also go straight to work after Pima Community College if that is also your intention. The Associate of Applied Science in Justice Professions is intended to solely be a direct employment pathway. That means its intent is to take you straight from Pima out into the workforce. Not all general education requirements are fulfilled for a university transfer. Therefore, if your intent is to get a bachelor's degree at some time in the future, the Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts with the Administration of Justice concentration is the program that we would recommend. If your intent is to complete the Law Enforcement concentration that is a special admissions program, meaning that there are unique program requirements that you must complete before you can be accepted into that program, you will work with your assigned advisor in relation to getting accepted into the Law Enforcement Academy. One thing that each of you will want to do, if you haven't already, is work with your assigned program advisor to build your academic plan. This is a long-term plan that will help you determine the order of your classes each semester, blending your general education, core courses, and support courses. Some of the AJS courses have prerequisites that build upon each other and need to be taken in a specific order. The slide shows the recommended courses for each semester. Failure to follow the order could prevent you from being able to take certain AJS courses and moving forward at the pace you want. It is recommended that students take AJS 101 and 109 for their first semester, AJS 115 and 124 in their second semester, AJS 204 and 225 in their third semester, and AJS 265 and AJS 270 if you are in a catalog year beginning 2021-2022 or later. Here's a sample schedule for each of the semesters for a student who wants to complete their associate's degree in two academic years and not attend classes in the summer. Typically for this to happen, a student will need to average 15 credits per semester. You will see in the slide that the AJS courses are listed in black, the support courses in green, and the general education courses in red. There is some flexibility in the order that you can complete the general education courses. When you complete your academic plan with your advisor, you will create the order that will best suit your needs. We will discuss the transferable electives on the next slide. The transferable electives that you choose will be based on the major and the university that you wish to transfer to. This slide shows the recommended transferable electives for the in-state universities in Arizona based on the criminal justice major. The University of Arizona recommends that students take psych 230, political science 201, and either political science 202, 203, or 204. In addition, they also recommend that economics 201 and 202 be completed at Pima. Grand Canyon University requires four consecutive semesters of a second language. If you're bilingual in Spanish, we recommend that you take the CLEP exam to earn these credits. Both the University, excuse me, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University do not have special requirements indicated. You may wish to start selecting for classes for your minor in these instances. Discuss that with your advisor. Pima Community Colleges resume courses that are face-to-face as of fall 2021. Virtual, hybrid, and online classes will also be available. The next few slides will walk you through the class selection and registration process. To register for classes, you will go into your MyPima account, select the students tab, and register and pay. When the page loads, you will see a box titled register for classes, and the third bullet down will be a hyperlink register for credit classes. When you click on that option, it will take you to another screen that will ask you to select the semester that you wish to attend. Once you've selected your semester, then you will be taken to a screen that will allow registration. It will ask you what would you like to do. Click on register for classes. When the page loads, you will see a box that says register for classes. In blue, you will find the highlighted find classes tab. In this tab, you will be able to enter the information to select your classes by looking them up by title. For example, AJS 101. You would enter the subject and course that you're wishing to look for, the method of instruction, do you want face-to-face, hybrid, virtual, online, and what campus you would like. At this point, you would click search, which will bring you to the listing of those available classes. To the left of that listing, excuse me, to the right of that listing, you will see an add button. Once you find a course selection that works for you with time, location, and course modality, you will click the add button. As you build your schedule, the courses will show as pending in the lower right-hand summary screen. Once you've selected your courses, you will click the submit button that will be found in the lower right hand corner of the summary screen. If you wish to enter your class CRNs, you would go in then to the next tab beside find classes and select enter CRNs. To enter the CRNs or to locate the CRNs, you would search in the class schedule. You'll write down the course number, the CRN, then go to your class registration page on the previous site and enter CRNs under the CRNs tab. When you look up your class, you will see the course title, the registration number, the days and meeting times, the method of instruction, whether or not the class is open, closed, or has been waitlisted, the seats available, or the number of seats taken on the waitlist, whether approval needs to be given in order for you to register for that class, or if there are any additional fees. The information will also show any prerequisite or co-requisite information that you need to know in order to register for those classes. We hope that this information will assist you in searching for and registering for your classes. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to your assigned program advisor. Thank you. Have a great day.
