Speaker 1: There are so many awesome AI tools for studying that it really is like learning in the year 3000. And importantly, there are different AI applications for different parts of the learning process. There are four stages in the learning process that can be really enhanced by AI tools. We've got planning, we've got learning, we've got practice and application of that knowledge, and then we've got reinforcement and long-term memory. So those four things can really be enhanced. The first one I wanna show you is Reclaim. It's smart AI scheduling for busy teams or for busy students. Once you sign up, you'll be in this page and you just say personal life, I'm a student, and then it says set up some habits. And this just makes sure that you set aside some actual real time for engaging with your learning material. So you can say, well, I wanna do lunch, weekday study. So let's just say I wanna do weekday study. Let's get rid of all these other ones. And it says sync your personal calendar. So it allows me to sync my personal calendar and also it gives you decompression time, travel time and all that sort of stuff. Then AI will give me suggestions and put in my calendar time blocks so I can actually focus on studying and learning. So based on the settings that I gave it and you can change these, it's completely customizable. It says that between 3 and 7 p.m. I should be actively studying. And it's done that for every week going forward. Now I can move these around as much as I want. It really is up to you how you actually organize, but it allows you to actually just sort of like set aside some time, which is the first most important thing about studying. The second thing I want you to know about is active learning and engagement. That is how many times are you actively focused on the learning materials and what do you actually need to learn? Now, if you have a course book or you have a textbook that your lecturer or teacher tells you to go through, then that's great. But a lot of the times I find that I need to have the same information from multiple sources before it really sticks. And it's about engaging with that content as much as possible. And I find, first of all, Courseable. I love Courseable because it just sort of like allows you to create your own courses. This is one that I've created on organic chemistry basics and it's really easy to set up. I'll show you how. So if I go to new course, you can see here it says, hi Andy, let's get started. I want to know about inorganic chemistry. And then we're gonna say, let's go. And then it's gonna generate a structure. It should take less than a minute and it is a surprisingly quick process. What I love about this is it gives you the ability to personalize the course. Here is actually what it's told me needs to be in here. All I need to now say is, yes, I like this, or I can say I want it a little bit more complex and I can also put in any changes that I've got there. And the one thing I love is that you can personalize it so it can actually match up with the courses and the lectures that you have got right now. Once I'm happy with everything, I can just say confirm and then it goes in and creates and finalizes a course. And what it does is it goes and has a look for different resources that I can watch, different things that I can read. And I'm really happy that there's a little bit of quality control that goes into generating this course. I've been really excited by what it could do with organic chemistry. And this is what it can do now with inorganic chemistry. Here it is. Once it's all set up, you can see here in the courses side, I've got my inorganic chemistry one, I've got my organic chemistry basics. So let's just click on the inorganic chemistry, click on a section. It says this is gonna take me about 11 hours. And you can see here that I've got a video to watch, a video to watch, and then something to read that I can watch on the web. So overall, this has done a fantastic job of just bringing in those resources from around the world and giving me a structured course that I can follow. Mwah, I love it. It's amazing to me now that you can just create your own course on anything you want. It is very cheap. And if you don't wanna pay a subscription for this, it will allow you to create a course for three US dollars a course. To me, that is money well spent. A lot of the time with learning, people want a lot of engagement. And you can use a chat GPT, which you need to pay for chat GPT plus, but it is well worth it because you also get access to all the other powerful tools that chat GPT has got. But importantly, one of the plugins that I use is this MetaMentor by Axon. So if we go here, we can go to plugins. And these are the ones that I think are really useful. First of all, Course Hero, then we've got MetaMentor. And then we've also got Deep Memory, which we'll talk about in a little bit at the end of this video. So overall, I can say, how do I learn organic chemistry? So I can say, I'm gonna use this MetaMentor. And it says, great, we'll be doing all this, blah, blah, blah. I say, yeah, go ahead. And then it creates this personalized study guide for learning organic chemistry. So it gives me a structure, which is brilliant. And then it says, would you like to start with the first sub-lesson? And I say, yes. And then it just gives me a summary. And the great thing is, is that after a little summary, you can ask it questions, go back and forth. And also it says, it can give you a PDF of this. So it says, unfortunately, I can only generate a PDF. The study guide are explained and expanded. So importantly, you can actually just capture that information and the chats you've had with this plugin for your own studying later. And you can take that PDF and put it into another service like explain paper or summarize research or chat with PDF. That gives you the ability then to keep on asking questions about this text that you've generated. Brilliant idea. There is no doubt that a large part of modern learning is about memorizing as much information as possible. Unfortunately, the only way I have found that is really useful for me is active recall. I need to be asked questions. I need to be prompted. My memory needs to be reinforced. Active recall is the only way that I've really been able to get a load of information in my mind. You may be a little bit different, but there are some tools out there that allow you to use active recall and sort of like generate that nice package of information that you keep cramming into your face. Another chat GPT that I really like is deep memory. And essentially, you can create a set of flashcards that then you can like reuse to reinforce your memory. So here you can see I've asked, come up with flashcards for me to memorize naming organic molecules. What an idiot. All right, despite my spelling mistakes, it says, all right, I've created these flashcards to help you memorize the naming conventions for organic molecules. So you can use this specifically if you're struggling to memorize certain things. It created these 20 cards for me, which is brilliant. So what is the prefix for 300? What is the prehydrocarbons prefix for four? What is the suffix for an amine? What is the suffix for a thiol? Overall, it's done a great job at just sort of like little sharp bits of information that I can keep repeating. Then you end up putting it into these cards and you can then set up the deck. The one thing I like about it is if you've got a test coming up, which is why a lot of people revise, you can say, I want to start learning on this day and I need to know it by this day. And it will actually give you a system by which you can actually get all of that information into your mind in time. Another flashcard system that is completely free. It's not AI driven, but it's Anki. And I use Anki all the time. I'm using it to learn Farsi or Persian. And ultimately you click here, you say study now, and to have an adventure, you show answer. And it's just a prompt. There's nothing fancy about it. But if you are looking for something free and really easy to use and backed by a nice community of people that can help you with this, Anki, it works for me. The last thing about studying is you need to be able to test yourself regularly. The thing about a test is that it really shows where your weaknesses are. A lot of people get scared by that because they don't want to feel like a failure, but it's better to know where your gaps of your information and knowledge are now, rather than waiting for the actual exam to find that out. So I found this one, it's called Doctrina. Now it was very, very inexpensive. It was 19 US dollars for a lifetime subscription. And I think it could be one of the most important and really inexpensive tools that you could use as part of your learning. And study process. So you can create quizzes, exams, summaries. You can chat with stuff. You can create essays and you can create notes. You can create class notes. So I like this because I like to create little quizzes. Let's just say I want a general topic. I'm in first year university. I want to find out about chemistry and I want organic chemistry and I want it to be medium. Submit. And what it will do is within a minute, it will generate a set of quizzes that just allow you to sort of like prompt yourself. I would do this probably once a day if I was in a really sort of hardcore study mode, just because then I'm learning information, I'm getting it into my mind. And part of that learning process is using the information you've actually put into your mind. Quizzes and exams are a great way to do that. So here we are. Which of the following compounds is an alkene? So I need ene on the end. So I'm going to say this one, answer correct. Oh, you can't see it because of my head. Answer correct. What is the general formula for alcohol? Oh, I need to work at this one out, but let's say it needs an O in there. Why has none of them got an O? They should have an OH. Ooh, that's bad. Which of the following examples of carboxylic acid? Acetic acid, correct. There we are, you can go through. What is the IUPAC name for the compound CH3CH2CH2CH3? One, two, three, four, butane. I've still got that magical undergraduate knowledge in my mind, but you can generate these quick quizzes. You can do exams and also it allows you to study as well. So the process of learning using AI tools has just got so much easier. And importantly, you can just sort of like emulate all of these things using just a normal chat bot like ChatGPT, Bing Chat, or also Claude, which I could do a little bit of a video on later. Let me know in the comments if that interests you. So there we have it. That's how you actually study like it's the year 3000. I'm excited for what these things can do to help us learn. And also it's about trialing different tools. This isn't a comprehensive list by any means because there are so many out there and it's about finding the ones that work for you. I personally don't like gamification. I like having all of the information for a relatively inexpensive price. I don't like subscriptions, but overall, these are the tools that I've found that I think could be really useful and powerful for your study and learning. Let me know in the comments, which ones you would add, but also remember there are more ways that you can engage with me. The first way is to sign up to my newsletter. Head over to andrewstapleton.com.au forward slash the link is in the description. And when you sign up, you'll get five emails over about two weeks.
