Riverside Demo Covers Recording to Distribution (Full Transcript)

[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Kendall, the head of community here at Riverside, and today I'm going to do a demo for you of everything that you can do in Riverside. First, I'm going to show you the recording studio and all of the tools that you have in there. Then we're going to move on to what you get after you record from your high quality separate tracks to all of your AI generated assets. And then we're going to go through the editing suite and talk about everything that you can do in the editor. We'll skim the surface there because there's so much that you can do, but I'll show you how to add elements and create your own clips. And then we'll move on to some other cool features that we have in Riverside, like hosting built right in or newsletters, anything that you want to do to really get the word out about your episodes and your content. So let's first dive into the studio. So I'm here in my studio. If you have one studio, that's where all of your episodes and all of your content will go. If you have two in your account, then you could separate it by different things like different shows that you have, or maybe one is for live sessions and one is for your show, whatever you'd like to do there. But you'll find under projects that all of your recordings all live under here. I'm going to go to home. You'll see over here in the record button that you have record. You also have upload if you want to upload tracks to be able to edit them. You can also jump right into the editor, plan a recording, host a webinar if that's on your plan or go live right from here. If you want to plan a recording, you can just go in, click right here, give it your session name and fill out all of that information. And that will send an email to your guest if you put their email address in here, giving them all of the studio links and everything that you need for your studio. And a quick note on inviting guests. Once you have your studio for your show, let's say that link for your guest remains the same. The cool thing here is that that means that if you automate the process, let's say that you have a calendar invite that you always send to your guests saying thanks for saying that you'll come on the show. Here's a link to join the studio. That will always be the same link. So you don't have to go and change it every single time. It makes it a lot easier. But what you can do is you can go under here and go to settings and you'll see that under your studio settings, you can go down and create your studio link so you can make it look exactly how you'd like it to look. And you'll see that you can copy your guest link if you have a producer or audience that you want to join. You can also have those links, but just go ahead and copy that so that you can have your guest link so that people can always join your studio. If you'd like, maybe you're recording back to back sessions and you don't want anyone to join the studio before they're supposed to. I recommend that you enable the waiting room. And that means that if somebody joins your studio, you have to let them in to be able to record. That's always what I do. So I recommend doing that. So let's jump in and record something. I'm just going to press record right here and it'll take me to my recording studio. The cool thing here is that this is exactly what your guests will see as well. So they don't have to download anything. They could just jump right into the recording studio. They put their name, they put their camera and their microphone, as well as for speakers. We recommend using headphones for the best recording quality and the best sound quality. And then they can click right over here or you can as well to effects and you could add any background effects or blurring to your studio. I'm going to turn off my camera and my microphone so you don't see two of me here and just give you a quick overview of the studio. So I'll join. At the top here, you'll see that you can name your recording. I recommend doing that just so that you can keep everything organized in your project page. And then right at the top over here, if you want to go live, you can press right over here and connect any live stream destinations. If you have a plan, you're able to go live. On the people tab, you'll see yourself and all of the information here. So which camera, microphone, speakers you're connected to and be able to see. I'll turn my microphone back on. You can see that your microphone is working here. And that just helps you make sure that everything is good to go. Then over here under chat, if you're going live, you can have your audience members chat right here. But otherwise, you can just send links or notes to your guests right over here in your chat. Again, you have that stream icon here. And under branding, you can brand your studio to make it look exactly how you'd like it to look. So if there are certain colors or certain backgrounds that you'd like to have here, this is where you can add that. Over here in text, you can have some text show up. This is mostly for live. But if you'd like to say something like this is my live demo session, you can put that right on screen using this tool. Also, you have your media board here. This is where you can upload images or videos to be able to show while you're recording. So if you want to comment on a specific video or show an image of something you're talking about, you can preload it into here and be able to show it when you're having your discussion and recording in your studio. And then here are your studio settings right down here. Moving down, you can see over here that you have scenes. These are so that if you'd like your studio to look a certain way when you are having your guests side by side or having screen share, you can set the design to look exactly as you'd like it to look during any different type of scene. Over here, you'll see the record button. You can also hover over it and run a test recording if you want to make sure that everything is set up correctly. And then you have your audio and video settings down here so that you can also from here, check out where your microphone and your speakers are set up as well as your video screen share reaction buttons. But a cool thing that I want to show you over here is the script. So right over here in the script button, I can jot down any notes. Hey, welcome to the show. Or if I want to do questions, question one, question two, I can write down any of those and just have those notes on screen with me. If I want, I want to write an entire script. I can press this teleprompter button and it'll show up right on screen for me so that I can read through it and press play and be able to read through my teleprompter. And that's built right in. Over here on layouts, you can choose the different layout that you want. If I had a guest on, if I want to do screen share, something like that. And that is all. While you're recording, you'll also notice a marker button will show down on this bottom panel here. And that is so that you can press either that marker button or the M key and mark different parts of your episode. So maybe there is an incredible moment that you know you want to clip or a great quote. Just press that M key and you'll see it later reflected in your editor as a purple dot on top of your timeline to show you exactly where those key moments are. It's really helpful for editing later. Once you stop the recording, you want to make sure that your and your guest tracks fully upload. That's because that's the magic of Riverside is that everything is recorded locally. So you get really high quality audio and video. That usually should take about a minute. But if it does take longer and your guest has to go, they can always go to riverside.com slash upload. And then as far as they're using the same computer and the same browser, their track is still on their computer so they can upload it at any time. Now, let's talk about what you get once you're done recording, because that's a lot of cool stuff that you get here. So I'm just going to jump into one of my projects pages to show you what you get after you record. And that has the recordings made for you, edits and exports tab. Let's start with recordings. And down here, you're going to see all of your separate tracks. So all of my screen shares are all separate tracks, every participant. And I can download any of those as well as the transcript. I can copy or download that. If I want to jump right into the editor and have it be editing from scratch, I can just press edit right over here. You can also go to this create button right over here and choose edit if you want to just go right for your full episode from scratch. Over here in the made for you tab, you'll see that you have a magic episode already made for you. And that's your AI generated episode based on the preferences that you'd like. So you can press personalize and choose what you'd like included in your magic episode. If you want it to be 16 by 9, for example, have your branding, remove pauses. You can choose any of those. And then every time that you record, you'll get this made for you. Also under brand, you'll be able to set your logo color and textiles that if you do choose branding to be on your magic episodes or magic clips, which we'll talk about in a second, it'll already be applied and look exactly as you'd like it to look. So really cool feature here. You also have magic clips and those are AI generated clips that are identified as the most engaging moments. So you can click through those, press play, edit them, make them exactly as you'd like. And it really just cuts down on your editing time and identifies some really fun, cool clips for you to put on social media. You can also personalize those preferences right up here. You'll also find that you get hooks and magic segments. Hooks are more for the beginning of your episode, but could be great for creating something like social media shorts and magic segments are 3 to 10 minute segments that are great for YouTube. You'll also see that you get blog posts and Instagram caption ideas. But speaking of those, you also have the co-creator over here and I can ask it to do a number of things like create a thumbnail for me. I can ask it to create a magic clip. I can ask to create a highlight reel. One of the suggestions you'll see here is episode title and descriptions, show notes and stuff like that. So that is based on your recording. So it's generated based on exactly what you spoke about. Very cool. Speaking of all of that, you'll also see that you can view your show notes that were generated for you right over here. But you could also regenerate those show notes based on each edit. So let's say that you cut down a few parts of the episode and you wanted to highlight something different. You can go to your edits and choose show notes that way so that everything is up to date with exactly what's in your final episode. Speaking of edits, you'll also see this edit tab over here. That's where all of your edits are kept. Whenever you click edit, it'll duplicate it. So don't worry if you click edit, you'll be able to make sure that you have that older version as well. And as I mentioned over here, if you press ask AI, you can generate the show notes for any of your individual edits. When you're done with your edits, you'll see that you can go to this exports tab and it'll show all of your exported content. So you could see my full episode here. This is a clip that I made, another clip that I made. They all live right here. So a really great way to go to exactly the right version and the episode that you ended up publishing. Now, let's jump into the editor. From this create button, you'll see that you can create magic clips, hook segments, all of the stuff that we had discussed before. You could even AI translate. So if you want your content to reach more audiences, you can use this tool to translate your content and sync your lips to what you're saying in the translated version. Very cool. Check that out. But you can also press edit right here and that'll jump you into the Riverside editor. So let's talk a little bit about that. So I'm here in my Riverside editor and you'll see a few things right from the start. Over here on the left side, you'll see all of your edits and all of your magic clips and such. So you can go through and be able to toggle through each of them to be able to see what you'd like and be able to jump from one edit to the other. You'll also see your exports, your assets, for example, your show notes or your generated newsletter for you, as well as your snapshots from your session. If you'd like to make the space as large as possible to edit, you can just press right over here and hide that. Over here on the right side, you'll also see the co-creator as we talked about before. You could do some really cool things with this like you can write, add b-roll of dogs every time we talked about dogs or cut this entire edit down to five minutes. Try it out and try whatever prompts you'd like and see how that co-creator can edit for you really easily without you having to do anything except ask it to do things. Let's exit out of this co-creator just to create more space for you. Over here on the left side you have your transcript. This can be edited exactly like a document so I can go through and I can delete. I can go and copy this, paste it over here, and be able to really just make those edits to your audio and video like you're editing a doc. You'll see if you have these two dots or one dots, those are silences, you can go through and even just press this trash can to remove them. And if you have these little squiggle lines over here, that is a filler word so you can go through and delete that as well. You'll also see if you zoom in that your transcript is there as well so you can really zero in on exactly what word you want to take out and be able to use it that way. You also have your chapters over here, that's great for when you are uploading it to YouTube and you wanted to have those chapters. When you're finished editing, you can go over here, download the transcript or the subtitles, that's a txt or srt file. And you can copy the transcript and copy that chapters list. I recommend you doing that before you exit out of the editor because then it's great to have for YouTube. So I can go through over here I can say, Oh, I want it right over here. I want to add a text overlay you can add right from the transcript. You can add media so when I'm talking about this I want to show a video, you can do that right from over here. You can also hide them from your captions, or my favorite thing to do is when I'm creating an episode, I edit the long form, but as I'm going through I'll say oh, this is a really great clip here, I'll highlight that, press create new clip. And what that will do is you'll see in the navigation, it created, you see this purple dot over here, it created a new clip for me. So I'll go through, create a bunch of new clips and then go one by one and really just modify each clips that they're perfect for social media. At the bottom over here you'll see that you have your timeline, you can edit however you'd like whether that's the co creator the transcript the timeline, or any mix of those. So, over here I have my timeline. I can go through and again, delete, if I'd like to. I can click over here and add text overlay or music we'll get to that in a second. But if I want I can also break them out pressing this button and create separate tracks so over here, you can hear Stephen a little bit. I'm going to highlight that. And I'm going to mute him, so that you won't be able to hear him in the background. So that's separate tracks and being able to edit either single or separate tracks. But this right here is just an overview. So you can see in the timeline that you have these, this little track right over here, and that's called scenes. So for example, right here you see me and Stephen, that's a grid scene, but right over here, maybe I want to just be showing myself. I can press layout. For here, I can click over there and press Kendall, and that will show, but over here, I have myself full screen. If you'd like to do that manually, you can click anywhere on the scene panel, press this create new scene, and I could even go over here and create a bunch of cool scenes for myself. I can drag and drop where I want the tiles to go and really get exactly as I would like with these layouts. Maybe I want to add a picture over here, I can do all of that. So that's a very quick overview of the scenes and the transcript and the timeline. If you're exploring the canvas, you'll be able to see that you can choose design so maybe I want my background to be this, I'll click right on that and then now I have this fun background, maybe on design two I want to have a spacing, and a little bit of a corner radius. So I can make them almost circles. Whenever I'd like to revert back I can just press undo over here, or you have your version history, which you can click right over here and find all of your versions of your edits. So you can just jump back to a previous version if you'd like. Moving on over to the side panel, so I already showed you that you have the co creator right over here where you can ask to create different edits or to be able to add different media. Over on AI tools you have a few very cool tools that you can use. So for example you can toggle on to remove pauses, and you can choose how aggressive you want the tool to be. So if you wanted to remove every even short pause you can do that, but you can balance it out to say I only want pauses removed that are up to a certain length. You can also choose to remove filler words like ums and ahs, that again has this toggle. So for example you could have smart, cut or mute. For smart that means that it sometimes it will mute the filler word and it sometimes it will cut. It helps make your edit a lot more smooth so that instead of cutting out every filler word, sometimes if I'm saying, uh, you could just mute that and it won't really be able to show on the video that you said, uh, but you'll just mute it so that it really creates a smooth effect for the cut. Over here you have fine fluff. If you press review. This is basically suggestions of things that you can cut. So, delete this part as it appears to be a backstage discussion, you can decide okay I agree with it, or ignore it. So this is helps you cut down your editing time with some suggestions on what you might want to cut. Back to the tools over here, you'll see that you have magic audio. For example, if you have a guest that didn't have a microphone or had a poor quality microphone, you can turn this on and you can toggle up and down and be able to set exactly how much that magic audio applies to their audio and be able to clean up their sound. So I recommend that if you find that you have poor quality on the sound of your guests maybe if they're recording using a microphone on their laptop and it doesn't sound as great as your professional microphone. Over on smart mute, it's a favorite tool of mine, basically when somebody is not speaking, it'll mute their track, so that everyone sounds crisp and clear when they're speaking. So for example, if I have a guest on that had a fan going on the background. I don't want that fan in my audio. So smart you will help eliminate that smart layouts has to do with the scenes that we talked about so if we go back over here, and we talked about split screen and full screen all of that smart layouts will do all of that for you. So if you toggle that on, it will change from grid to full screen depending on who's speaking, and it's really great for when you're editing your content so you can see if I zoom in right here. Now that I've toggled the frequency back and forth, it creates these scenes for me from full screen to grid, and really just makes that editing process a lot easier. You also have a color correct so you can brighten and change the scene to make the video look even better, as well as an eye contact feature so you can make sure that your eyes are focused on the camera at all times. And you have a video enhancement that helps boost the video quality. So moving down over here under brand, I mentioned it before but if you want your videos to look uniform and be able to do that really quickly, I highly recommend that you choose that brand setting right away. So what you can do is you can press edit brand, add your logos, your colors, how you want all of your text to look. You could even choose the captions and be able to add intros. So, that means that whenever you press apply brand to any of your videos, it'll automatically apply that branding, you see my logo showed up here, to your video in just one click. It really helps make sure that all of your videos look uniform and on brand. So that's one of my first steps that I recommend as far as setup. If maybe, for example, I have my volume is a little bit too low and I want to change that globally, I can raise that here. I can change the EQ. And if my lip sync is slightly off, maybe there was a problem with my microphone, I can just click right over here and shift my audio by a few milliseconds. Really helpful tool in case there's any hardware issues. Moving down to your media, this is where you'll find your recordings, your edits, and you can upload different images, videos, anything like that. So you can show them right on screen. So let's say right over here, I want to show this image, you'll just add that to my timeline, I can go in and put a full screen, I can change the in and out point. I can go in and animate it if I'd like. So I'll click right here. Maybe I want it to fade in and fade out. I can do all of that right from here. I can also do motion graphics. So if I want to have a speaker name show up in a very cool kind of format, we have some templates right over here, maybe a subscribe button, you can click on any of those. And let's say subscribe button over here. And I want to make some changes. So change the name to Kendall and give me 1 million subscribers, and it'll generate that for me, and I could put it right on my video. You'll also find that you have text overlays that you can use and it works the same as those image overlays that I showed. So if I want to put a speaker name, I can write Kendall, I can put that to the side right over here. And I can drag the in and out points as I did before. And I can put in captions as well. If I have a caption that I love, I can highlight it and add it to my favorites and it'll show up right at the top over here. You also have some stock images so you can search for different things. Let's say I talked about an iPhone. I can press right over there and find images and videos of exactly what I'd like. There's also audio over here which is your music overlays and that's your music library which you can search and start your favorites so that you can have your intro music or any other music layered into your edit. Now let's create a clip together so I can show you how that all works when it works all together as one. So, I'm going to highlight the part that I want to clip. I'm going to do all of this, and I'm going to press create new clip. This process that I'm going to be showing you about creating and adding your clips also works for your magic clips, I'm just doing it from here. So, I'm going to click right over here and right away because it's a clip I know that I want it to be nine by 16. So I'll go right here and click nine by 16. I know that I want myself above Stephen so I'm going to click this little circle you see right over here and flip them. And I know that I want my headspace to be much like his so I'm going to click right over here. Zoom in and drag and drop. Great. This added some captions for me but maybe I want them to be different. I'm going to press on captions right over here and I'm going to choose this one for my branding. Great. I'm going to go into AI tools and I want my clips to be really dynamic and moving so that they catch people's attention. So I'm going to toggle on smart layouts, and you'll see all of these scenes that were created for me. Maybe I want it to be a little bit less so I'll change that frequency. And then there we have that. One thing that you're going to notice is that when I'm full screen, my captions are right down here. But when I'm in grid, they're also right down here and I don't want it to particularly look that way. So, for here, I want my captions to be a little bit larger. And let's put them right over here. What I'm now going to do is press similar scenes, and that means that every time that I'm full screen, this is where my captions will show up. Great. I'll click out of that. But now on this grid, it's kind of over my face. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to move them right here to the middle of me and Steven. And instead of for this scene, I'm going to do similar scenes and again, it will highlight in purple all of the similar scenes, and that means anytime that there's a grid of the two of us that this is where the captions will be. So, that's where that will live. So I have with Steven as well because he's full screen, but then when it goes to grid, it will have our captions, jump to the middle. So that's one thing that I like to do. Maybe I also want to add right over here, I'm Kendall community manager, and there's Steven. I'm going to press new scene. And when I press scene, you'll see that there are a few templates given. I'm going to click this one that has speaker names. So you'll see that has the speaker names already added. So, maybe I'll move this caption up, make sure that it's similar scenes that doesn't go above our speaker names, and then I'm going to write Steven YouTuber and Kendall community. And so let me show you now what that will look like when it changes that scene. You can see how it already has those animations added, that's because I use the template. But if I want, I can highlight any of these, choose this animation over here and change that. Maybe one last thing that I want to do is I want to add this subscribe button. You'll see that I already generated it in the motion graphics. I can just put that right on here, say subscribe to my channel, drag the in and out point, and maybe I actually want that to be at the end of my clip. So I'll drag this over here and have that be exactly as I'd like. Other things you can do are adding that stock image. So, let's say that I want to click this part right here, press add, and I want to add stock. Over here, again, I'll do something like dogs. And I'll put a dog right over on my screen, and you'll see that it was added exactly where I highlighted. I can even go over here and press full screen to make that full screen. And if I'd like, I can press scene right here and scene right here to make it its own scene. And for this, in this scene, I want to, let's say, hide the captions. And if I wanted to make it its full screen, the captions would go away. You can really customize all of this to make a really dynamic, fun type of clip. And whenever you're done, you can just press export right over here, and you can download the clip, you can publish it if you have hosting set up, and you can export it and even share it for review. Once you export, you'll get a pop up within Riverside, but you'll also get an email that lets you know that your video is ready to be downloaded. Once you've recorded and edited all of your video, you can do a few really cool things that are also built into your Riverside account. For example, you now have hosting. So you can host your podcast and be able to publish episodes right onto Spotify, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and more at no additional cost in your plan. So once you connect any of those, you'll be able to publish your episodes right over to any of those platforms. You can also create your own website so that if you want to send people to see all of your episodes, there's a website that can be built into your Riverside account that you can send people to to see all of your episodes and to be able to watch them wherever you'd like. You also can build a newsletter right into there by clicking over here on newsletter and being able to create that newsletter, and you can generate a newsletter based on your recordings or write them from scratch. So this is an example of a website with just a newsletter, and you can see that you can get all of your newsletter additions over here, plus a subscribe button to be able to have people subscribe to your newsletter. And over here on this website, you'll see that you have your thumbnail and you have your title. If I connected any of my social media feeds, I'd see it right down over here. Plus, you could see all of my episodes in one place. So that's also a podcast website built right in at no extra charge. The next thing I want to show you is the content planner. That means you can click this little plus sign over here and plan upcoming episodes, for example, to post at certain days, you can plan recording sessions, even webinars. But my favorite over here is this social media post. If you have the grow plan, you can schedule social media posts. If you have your pro plan, you can just post them right from this calendar, but you can't schedule them. So that means that you can connect any of your platforms, select any of your files. So let's say this one, press export. And I can write the caption, schedule when it's going to go out, and decide if I want the post to be on my feed. You could even generate a caption based on your recording if you'd like. And then if you'd like to publish you could do that right from here. So not only can you record and edit and host, you can also publish onto social media right from Riverside. So we just covered a lot. And if you can believe that is only scratching the surface on everything that you can do in Riverside. We're also putting out new tools and features all the time. We have our Help Center open as well as our YouTube channel, where we talk about all of our new features and walk you through them as you go.
