[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Hey, did you know that you can do some reporting right out of Slack? Watch this. Hello and welcome back to Slack School. My name is Mike Reynolds. I'm your host. Today, we're going to look at native reporting directly in Slack. We're going to look at this in two ways. I'm going to show you what it looks like if you're on an enterprise grid instance, which is our top tier plan, and I'm going to show you what you get on the more basic plans with business and pro. Let's get after it. Of course, if you do have any questions about our plans or these reports that I'm about to show you, feel free to go into the Slack community at slackcommunity.com and just ask Slack bot. They'll tell you everything you need to know. Let's get going. First, I'm going to use this org. It's a business plus plan. You're going to get the same thing with a pro plan as well. I can go over to my gear icon, hover over this, and go down to this option of workspace analytics. This is going to open up in your browser and it's going to take you right where you want to be. Before we scroll down and actually look at what's on this page or see the other pages that we have access to, I want to highlight something up at the top. First, you've got the ability to export the data that you're looking at, or you can choose a different date range other than last 28 days. That's just what it defaults to, but you can change that. You can also, up at the top, click on these and they will jump down and give you a bit more information about what it's trying to show you. Let's take a look down here. This is a demo environment. There's not a lot of activity in it, but I can see where I've started to use this environment to actually do some demos and some testing. You can see where there's more activity in here, but this is the active people in your workspace. This is a great benchmark to begin looking at adoption of, hey, we've brought in Slack or I have Slack, how much am I actually making use of it? This is a great table for you to take a quick look. First off, we've got two ways to look at where messages are being utilized. The first is where are we reading them and where are we sending them? Then also, we have a when messages are being sent. This is going to be on a timeline, of course. You can see here in the demo environment, this is not very exciting data. Of course, it is there. The next thing you can do is we can look at uploading files. Again, you've got pretty basic information. I haven't uploaded a lot of files in this environment, so it's not a very exciting demo. If I go down here, we also have two other options underneath our analytics header. The next is going to be members, then we'll take a look at channels. Of course, in this workspace, I do have a couple of demo users and you can see I've worked with Jen on some things, so I can see this information here. It's been a while since we've done anything, certainly not within the last 30 days, so you can tell that's there. I can also go take a look at channels. Here I'm going to see all of my public channels over the last 30 days with any activity. I can export this or change the columns if I want. On my other tabs, I also have the ability to export or edit my columns. On the overview, I can export the entire dashboard if I would like to. Now let's hop over and take a look at that enterprise grid. Remember over here, I've just got these three sections, overview, members, and channels. Now I'm in my enterprise grid edition of Slack. This is going to be a very different one. Because it's enterprise grid, we're going to go up to this menu at the top, go into our tools and settings, and instead of choosing workplace analytics, we're going to use organization analytics. Of course, with enterprise grid, you do get a lot more reporting capability. A lot of this is going to be the same, so we'll start out and I can still see my membership, the active people in my organization, where conversations are happening. Here I've done a bit more in here so you can see about public channels, private channel use or direct messages, and then I can see where messages are being sent. Overwhelmingly, here I'm using these direct messages and public channels, but I am reading some things in private channels as well as direct messages and those public channels. Again, this is really weird data because it's a demo environment and you can see a lot of activity from fake users that don't even exist anymore for me. We can also look at uploading files. I haven't uploaded a lot of files in this org, which makes sense because it's a demo. I can, because this is an enterprise grid, take a look at my workspaces. In enterprise grid edition of Slack, you can have multiple Slack workspaces and they are connected so I can have a channel that is shared between those two Slack workspaces. This is an awesome feature that lets me partition data in the same type of way, well, data and conversation about that data. I can do some things like if you have multiple Salesforce orgs, you could have multiple Slack workspaces and have one that corresponds to each. That might be the model that works for you and the tool to get that done would be enterprise grid. I can take a look at my members. Here it's just myself and a demo user. I can take a look at channels as well. You can see a lot of information about channels. Again, I can export, I can edit columns if I would like, and I can view some information about huddles. Now, I don't really use huddles in this org because it's just me and myself, but I do have the ability to do some reporting about those. Clips, clips are a great feature. You can record a small video clip natively within Slack. It's got its own little recording mechanism built into it, records audio and video, and then you can share that. We can take a look at that. I have not been using the feature, as you can see. We can look at apps that have been installed and see how those apps are being utilized. This is a really, really great ability. If you're trying to build a new app and deploy it, and then you want to measure the adoption of it, you could do so right here. We can also look at workflows. If I wanted to report at a very high level, hey, I've built a new workflow, a big deal alert, are people making use of it? Well, you could figure that out right here. Of course, we can look at the usage of AI in a couple of different ways. Again, you've got total or the number of people that are using AI, and it's going to give you the average usage per month. Now I can take a look at some Slackbot usage. So the amount of times we're using Slackbot or the number of people using Slackbots, really easy to see those numbers here. And I can look at channel summaries. This is the specific AI action of summarizing a channel. So I could monitor that or see the number of people using the feature. I can look at the same for thread summaries, summarize this thread for me. You can get all of that. You can also look at the usage of your daily recaps, your AI huddle notes, summarizing files, using Canvas's AI. This is a really fun feature. If you haven't used it, try it out in the Slack community at slackcommunity.com. You can build a can or you can open a canvas and then instead of writing the canvas yourself, you can just put in the prompt right there in the AI and say, hey, I would like for you to create a 30-60-90 learning plan for a new Slack admin. And it'll generate one for you. It's a pretty cool feature. AI translations, literally one of my favorite features that we have in my large Salesforce org. I use this feature because I work with a global team and it's really convenient for some of my colleagues who are not native English speakers to just speak in their own native language. I click a button. I read that in English. They wrote it in whatever language they wanted to and I'm reading it in the language I want to read it in. My responses, they get the same treatment. They get to read in the language of their choice. Really, really fantastic feature. Everybody sees it in the way that I sent it until they choose to change it and they can change it back. Fantastic. Of course, you could do search summaries. That's a great AI-powered tool. As well as using AI to build your own workflows, you could measure that right here and explain this message to me. This is a favorite tool of mine. Sometimes people will send new things like they'll use an abbreviation that I simply just don't know because I started working with a new team. Maybe it's the name of the team itself and I won't understand what it is. I can just click on the icon. It's three little stars. I click on the icon. I say, explain this. You don't even have to say explain this, you just click a thing that says explain this to me and then AI will explain the entire message, but it uses your environment to ground it. If I say NNAOV, well, that might mean something at your company, but here it means NetNewAOV. That's exactly what it's going to tell me. It's not going to go to the web and try to figure out what NNAOV might mean. It's going to use my org. Really, really great feature. I love that one. We can also take a look at canvases so we can see overall canvas activity, who's using canvases, and you've got the same with lists, seeing who's using lists and the overall list activity. Well, there you have it. Looking at dashboards in Slack is as easy as anything. Let us know what you thought of the episode or tell me what you want to see me do in the next episode. You can get into the Slack community at slackcommunity.com, jump into the Slack School channel and drop us a note. Tell us what you thought. Don't forget to like and subscribe and we'll see you next time. Hey, good job. I can hover over this gear. Oh, I'm on a biz plus. Would you look at that? I'm on a business plus org. I can start that over.

Arow Summary
Mike Reynolds hosts a Slack School episode demonstrating native reporting inside Slack. He compares analytics available on Business+ and Pro plans (Workspace analytics: overview, members, channels; export data; adjust date ranges; see active people, message send/read patterns, file uploads, and channel activity) versus Enterprise Grid (Organization analytics with expanded reporting). On Enterprise Grid he shows additional sections such as workspace-level reporting across multiple connected workspaces, huddles, clips, apps, workflows, and extensive Slack AI usage analytics (channel/thread summaries, recaps, huddle notes, file summaries, Canvas AI, translations, search summaries, workflow building with AI, and “explain this message”). He emphasizes using these dashboards to benchmark adoption and measure feature/app/workflow usage, and invites viewers to ask questions in slackcommunity.com.
