Speaker 1: Here are directions on how to copy a quiz from an existing course into another course. First things first, go to the course that contains the quiz that you're wanting to copy. And this process is similar to doing an element copy or doing a whole course copy. We start by doing a backup and then a restore, it's just watching some of the settings. So we start out by going to the blue wheel and we're going to start out by backing up the things that we're going to copy. And now I need to make the choices here on this listing of what I want to back up. Now I could leave all of these on here. The problem is that it just takes longer for the backup to happen because there's a lot more data being backed up and then a little more time for it to restore into your new course because of the amount of data. Or you can make selections later in the process to eliminate the elements you're not going to need. But you might as well just do it in the first step here. So you almost never are going to be bringing across your users and their data. So you unclick that and you saw a number of items disappeared. And then now it is asked that we've got the rest of these items to determine. I'm not going to bring across blocks or filters, no calendar events. What I'm after is a quiz which is considered an activity. If you remember when you add an activity or resource that a quiz is underneath there. So I'm going to leave that checked. I'm not sure about the files so I'm going to leave that checked. I am also going to include the question bank because if I don't include that then there won't be anything left in my quiz. If you recall how you make a quiz is you create the quiz but then you also need to create your question bank that has all of your questions and answers in and then you pull from that question bank the items you're going to use in your blank empty quiz. And so you need the question bank because that contains everything. You shouldn't need groups or in this case competencies, custom fields. I'm not sure about the content bank so I'm going to leave that on there. But the big ones for sure are the activities and resources and the question bank. Now I'm going to click next and I'm going to go through here. And in this case I think what I'll do is I'll bring across a couple questions or quizzes from the first couple weeks or something just to see how that works. So again click on the heading and unclick the purple box and it will unselect everything under that section. So this is the general section at the top part of your Course Moodle. Then you get to the weeks and so here if I don't want the first week copied over and all of it then I uncheck it and then here is the second week. And again the quiz that I'm looking for is not in there. But what I am going to do is I'm going to go ahead and select like I said a couple quizzes to bring them across to see how it all works. So I do want quiz for Chapter 2 but if I select this or deselect it then you'll see all the rest are deselected and I can't turn them back on. So what you need to do is leave it selected and then deselect the individual elements you don't want to copy across. So in this case the only thing that's coming across from this week will be quiz for Chapter 2. And I don't need that week but I am going to try and pick up the quizzes for three different weeks. So I'm going to again I can't deselect that one otherwise I won't have the quiz. So again the only thing selected from this week is the Chapter 3 quiz and I'm going to bring across the Chapter 4 quiz just to see how it all works out. So there I've got the first couple chapters in my book that I'm going to copy the quizzes. And so here I'm going down the list deselecting the whole week by selecting the title for the week. I'm getting rid of all of those. No point in carrying across a lot of extra data. That just takes time. Oops. There we go. There we go. Get away from that real quick. And then there's the last week. So just looking back real quickly all I did was select the first couple chapter quizzes and the only thing checked in these weeks just there is the heading. So I am able to select the element for each of those three weeks which is the quiz. Move back down here and click on next. There's nothing you need to change here. You could change the title, the file name, but I strongly encourage you not to do that. You'll be able to follow it easier if you've still left it the same as it offers you. And so you'll see here as we scroll through all these red X's. So it's just showing what we just went through and confirming that none of these things are being included or carried across in the backup. But here let me go back up to those first couple weeks so you can see where the chapter two, three, and four are. See that's the general area. Okay, let's get... Okay, so here is the chapter two. It's got a green check mark. And here's chapter three with the check mark. Of course, there's nothing we can change. It's just confirming and letting you see for sure that this is what's going to happen. So let me scroll down and now I'm going to click the perform backup and you'll see here how quickly that came across because there's only three quizzes that I asked it to make a copy of and then the question bank, which was being done also in the background, which we identified that we wanted to bring in across in that very first screen where we were able to select the question bank. So we had already done that and we didn't have anything we had to choose during the weeks except for the quiz format or template that you create each week. So now I'm going to click continue. So here is this first part. If you just kind of disregard, it's just saying it was done as a backup in Moodle and as a course. And then if you just read a little further, then you'll see the actual name of the course that you just copied from. And sometimes, I'm not sure why, but sometimes it'll be up in this little section and sometimes it'll be here. If you're not entirely certain, if you've backed up two things from the same course, what I always pay attention to is the date and the time so that if this is the exact time that I just did this, then this is definitely the file I want to restore. So that's the one that backed up. So it's the backup to this course. Now I'm going to click over here to restore it. And if you're wanting to download and save this to your own files, you can't use it unless you upload it and bring it back into Moodle, but you could do that in another situation. It wouldn't have to be under the same institution. But say you were leaving an institution, this is how you could take along your quizzes or something a whole course. So that's why there's a download. But what we want to do is restore what we just backed up. And again, now this is just a confirmation screen letting us know what came along. And this time, you're going to either restore as a new course, meaning you're creating it and it'll be a new course itself, but we're not doing that. We can restore it into an existing course if you have it open, which we could have stopped before we clicked on that restore earlier and went and got to the course we were going to import this into, but we're not going to do that. It's easier really to come down toward the third option where it says restore into an existing course. And in this case, we do want to merge it into the existing one. We're bringing these quizzes across into a brand new course that's already all set up, but we're definitely not wanting to delete what's in that course. We want to merge in. And then here is where you go and if your course may be listed here if you've worked on it recently, and if it isn't here, then you just need to go down to the search box, put in the name and number of it. You would need to know exactly what it is and then click search. And then it will pop up if it's there. In this case, I am using this practice course I set up where I'm bringing this into. And so I'm going to select that and now I want to choose continue. When you're searching for a course, you hit search when you're looking for a course, but when you've got the course selected, then you click continue. And here it is just reminding us that it's going to give us the chance to, now I had unchecked custom fields. I don't believe I had any of those, but I can click it. There's really only a couple things to choose from. And then I definitely want to include that content bank that has all my questions in that my quizzes pull from. So again, here is the course name that it is going into or that it's coming from. And we just generally, I don't change any of that. This is again, another chance to go through and you see what you're copying in, which is kind of the shell of your quiz and it's showing it to you just in case you might want to uncheck it, not bring it across in case something changed somewhere during that time. This is just kind of scroll through, it's just showing you again. There's those green check marks saying this is what's going to happen. So click perform restore. And this time, this may take just a little bit longer just because of that data bank. The three quizzes are just the shell and they don't take very long. But to bring across that content, the question bank that has, that's a little more sizable. So here's the course that I had told that I wanted to bring them into and let's see here. Okay. So they popped into the same weeks that they were in my existing course. So here's quiz for chapter two, chapter three, and chapter four. And just like any time you'd be adding a resource or an activity when you're bringing them across, they're going to probably first of all, land in the same area. So if they were something you copied up here in the general section of your course, where you copied it from, it's probably going to show up here in the general section. Just like with these, the quizzes, there weren't quizzes in the first two weeks. It was the third week before chapter two's quiz came up. Then there was a week where there wasn't a quiz and then there were quizzes. So these popped into the same weeks. They were in, in their initial course. So let's check out one of these quizzes. So here's the chapter three quiz. And so as I mentioned, you know, the initial part is you're creating the shell where you end up putting in your directions and you, this is where you set your settings. So you're able to indicate how many times a student might be able to take the test, what the grading is. So all of that work is done in this section and that's brought across. So here's just, we'll look at that just real quickly. So this is the information that you set up that kind of builds the shell of the course. And so that's why there's more to just the court or the quiz. You need to also have the question bank. And so let's attempt the quiz. And there we go. There are the questions. So if you forget to bring the question bank across with you when you back it up and restore it, once you go in here to look at your items, they won't be there because your quiz shell will not have any question bank to pull from to recreate the quiz for the students when they're taking it. So you are going to have to make sure there's that little extra step in there that you just kind of reason through. You're going to be bringing across the activities and resources, which is what quizzes fall under when you're creating one. And then you also want to make sure that you're bringing across your question bank. And so, and let me see, let's go to quiz chapter four. And then I'm just going to double check here, the scroll down here, go to the question bank just to see you. So this is what got brought across was all of this information. So if I did not bring these questions are specific to the course, then this would not, there would be nothing in this question bank and you'd either have to do uploading the questions from your source as a whole separate step. But if it's already been created in another course and your quiz and everything all work well, then it is much easier to just restore the quiz and the question bank and bring them across with a backup and restore process. And so that's basically the steps to bringing quizzes across. It isn't too awfully hard, but there's just a few steps to it that you just need to make sure you do so that everything is there and it works when you're done. So there you go, how to backup and restore quizzes.
