Speaker 1: Publishing your data in peer-reviewed journals is a massive pain. There are loads of steps you need to go through. So if there is an AI tool that can make all of the steps a little bit easier, wouldn't you jump at the chance to use it? So when Trinka reached out to me and was like, hey, would you like to review our AI guided app for helping researchers publish? I was like, absolutely, let's take a look at it. So here we can see that Trinka is all about grammar and writing done right. But the thing is, now stay around to the end of this video because it gets way better and they do more than just check your grammar. And importantly, it's made specifically for academic and technical writing. And that's something that a lot of other tools just don't do. So I wanted to see how well does it really do? And I put in my old papers and some drafts that I never released into the peer-reviewed world to see if it would actually improve on what I actually submitted. Okay, so when you log in, you end up on this dashboard. You can see you can upload your files here. We've got a demo file. You can see that it's a simple text editing interface. And here we've got all of the changes that it recommends. I wouldn't actually ever use it in this format. I feel like typing onto a browser is always a little bit weird. So I would always use Microsoft Word. And the good thing is they have a plugin. So here, if we open up, let's have a look. We'll open up this one. This is a paper that I submitted a few years ago. And you can see here that it's all laid out as a typical kind of paper would be just before you're about to submit it. Oh, there's something here. Manufacturer here. I didn't put the manufacturer. Look at that. Naughty me. Once you download the Microsoft Word add-in, you get this extra bar in the ribbon. And then all you have to do is push start. This plugin's doing an okay job. It's not really allowing me to kind of jump around as much as I would hope. The introduction here, it's taking a while. No language issues on this page, which I suspect isn't necessarily true. But thanks very much, Trinka. I would actually not turn this on until I was ready to edit. You know, when I first start writing peer-reviewed papers, I actually just want to get all of my information out of my brain. And I don't want to worry about the intricacies. I would turn this on at a much later stage when I'm ready to kind of edit and thinking about the peer-review process where it's going. But initially, when I'm first writing, I am just brain dumping. I'm not worried necessarily about the quality of the stuff that's ending up on the page. Here is a paper that I actually never, ever released. This is recent progress in planar nanocomposite transparent electrodes. And so let's start Trinka up on this paper that was in progress. And let's see what it has to say. This is really where most people would start using Trinka in that kind of like late writing stage. So it's picked up some interesting things. There are some things that really doesn't really make sense. You still have to use your own intuition and your own sort of like decision-making skills as a writer. But there are more features in this that are really cool that I think you need to know about. First thing I really like, and this is probably one of the most powerful things that I think I would use the most is auto file edit. And this is where at the end of your writing process, you know, you can just put in an entire document and it will do a full edit for you like a supervisor would or like an editor would later on. So I've actually done this with two different papers that I've written in the past. So let's have a look at this one. I uploaded this one and you can see that I've got 158 revisions. What it does is it gives you all of the edits but as tracked changes, not just that bar on the side that can be a little bit slow to react to your document. So here you can see we've got everything here from utilizing example cited in the literature instead of literature, which I like. And it just goes through and you can see it does essentially what a supervisor would do and give you not only tracked changes, but it also gives you comments. So here it says there's missing content subsequently removed by, I don't understand why it's got it there. So it's a little bit finicky with its comments I found, but overall, I would certainly use this for this editing feature. And you do get two of those a month, even on the free levels. I did this one while I was in the free mode, but you can see I've got read only restrictions, which means I can't go and edit it, which is a little bit frustrating and a reason why you might want to upgrade later on. Trinker has some hidden weapons in its arsenal of tools for researchers. If you go down here onto reports, you can see it's citation check, plagiarism check and journal finder. So let's take a little bit of a look at these. First of all, citation check. I submitted one of my documents down here and you can see that of the citations, there are 42 of 42 at risk. And that's because this is a very, very old document. So I can view the report here and I really like that it gives you kind of this citation analysis overview. So another great way to do that last little check before submission to make sure that your citations are actually sort of powerful enough to be included in your paper. So we've got retracted, which I really like. Just make sure you're not doing any of those silly mistakes where you're citing retracted work. You've got old, poorly cited, journal bias and more. So if I head over here, I can actually have a look at published long ago. Yes, that's because this paper is pretty old and this was published a long time ago, which means the citations are pretty old. But it's nice to know that you are publishing stuff that may be a little bit out of date. We've got journal bias here, which says that 26% of all of the citations are from energy, materials and solar cells. Here we've got papers that are not frequently cited, which may mean that they're not as powerful references as you are hoping they will be for your paper. So overall, I love the fact this citation checker just takes all of that guesswork and all of the effort about finding citations. And it's super easy then to go and swap out citations for newer ones, for ones that are more popular and get rid of all of those really dangerous retracted ones that will really sort of like eat into your credibility too. Let's check this plagiarism check. So plagiarism check over here. I've actually put in one of my papers and you can see that it's got serious plagiarism issue detected. And that's great because this is a published paper and it already picks out that it's been published. And here you can see that it's gotten over 80% internet match, over 80% paid publication match. And you can see that it's got words with my paper, my papers and somewhere else. So I should probably go check out that something else, but I think that's where the paper is actually published. So that would be the online source. Overall, I think that it's great. You get two free checks per month. You've also got the turn it in and authenticate stuff for extra credits that you can purchase. So overall, it's great just to do these little checks and Trinker just makes it so much easier just to sort of like do all of these very important checks, just one after the other before you submit your article. Great, there's one more thing that you should know about that I really kind of like and I've not seen it anywhere else on any other AI tool. Finding the right journal to publish your paper in is a massive pain. You have to choose wisely, impact factor not too high, impact factor not too low, somewhere in the middle, a nice Goldilocks zone of impact factor. But where can you submit it and where are journals accepting papers like yours? If you go to Journal Finder down here, you can see that you end up with three easy steps to find the best journal to publish. If you put in your abstract, it will search for journals for you. So I put in my abstract down here and you can see that overall, that this does not a bad job. Now I don't really like this one. This top one is a little bit rubbish, but you can see it gives you impact factor, H index and site score. And so overall, these are perfectly acceptable publications that I could have put my paper in. Nanotechnology would have been great. It's one that I've published in the past scientific reports and I like that it gives you not only the impact factor, the H index and site score, but it also gives you the opportunity to see other similar articles published. It gives you the trends, everything you need to make sure that you're making a sensible decision for where your paper goes because ultimately, if your paper goes somewhere where people aren't reading it, then it's a little bit of a waste. So here it gives you the opportunity to find those papers and this is great for early career researchers, particularly because you can then go to your supervisor with data-driven reasons for why you should submit in a certain publication. So really great and something that was quite time consuming and a little bit confusing when I was doing research. So great and such a great addition to this toolbox that I think will become invaluable for newer academics and those that just want to make the process so much easier.
