Speaker 1: Hello friends and clients, I am Jennifer Woffergabe, Immigration Attorney in Austin, Texas, and I am here today to share with you about Certificates of Translation. Very sexy, exciting topic, but actually really important for individuals who are going through the immigration process, especially those who don't have an attorney. Most of us immigration attorneys know how the Certificate of Translation works, but a lot of people are confused about it and what it means. And if you don't have an attorney, then this should be helpful for you. And below the video, we will provide a link to an example, a template that we use here at Woffergabe's Bella to certify our translations. So, if you would please hit subscribe, I would appreciate it so much. If you are going through the immigration process, you are dealing in some form or fashion with USCIS. Now, in most cases, the Department of State doesn't need translated documents unless, let's say your home country is Germany, if your document is in German or in English, either one of those is going to work for the Department of State. Now, if you're in Germany and you're a German citizen, but you were born in, let's say, Lebanon, then your original birth certificate is not probably going to be in German or English, and you are going to need to provide a translation. Anyone who has filed petitions with USCIS is going to have to provide translated documents. All your documents submitted to USCIS have to be in English in order to comply with their requirements. And so, if you have an original document that's not in English, you need to provide a copy of that original document as well as a translation of that original document in order to comply with USCIS requirements. And if you are in the immigration court, then you absolutely have to provide English translations of any documents that are not already in English, whether that be a birth certificate, marriage certificate, some kind of official document like that, support letters, etc. Any kind of evidence that you submit to the U.S. government, if it's not the Department of State, if it's not a consulate in your home country, then you have to provide a translation. So, the translation certificate has to go with translation. If you, let's say you have a birth certificate and you translate and you format a beautiful document that has that kind of copies and mirrors the birth certificate translation, that's great. It's just not going to be complete for USCIS purposes or immigration purposes unless it contains a particular certificate of translation. So, the certificate of translation is this document here. I'll show you the template. It says certificate of translation at the top. So, nothing very creative. But then it just contains this language. It says I, comma, name of translator. It needs to be the full name, first name, and last name. Hereby certify that the above is an accurate translation of the original document as it was written in whatever the original language was. That may be Arabic. It may be German. It may be Spanish. It may be Portuguese. It could be any language besides English. Okay, and here's the really important part of this. This is an accurate translation of the original document as it was written in the original language. And I am confident in English and the original language to render translation. That is the whole thing that has to be provided in order to make a translation for USCIS legally valid. Now, it also needs to contain the signature of the translator accompanied by the name of the translator and their contact information along with the date that the translation was rendered. So, all of this information needs to be completed and customized for your particular case and your particular document. Please, please, please feel free to download this template. We are happy to share this with the immigrant community so that all of you out there are able to hopefully avoid delays and requests for evidence and problems with your case that may be the result of not providing a certified translation. USCIS will send you, if they catch it, if they notice that you didn't provide a certification with your translation, they will send you a request for a certified translation. And if you don't know what it means to certify your translation, that could be confusing and it can be stressful and create delays and complications in your case.
