Speaker 1: After the independent assessment process has been concluded, Innovate UK carries out a number of steps to moderate the assessor's scores and make sure the final selection for funding is fair and transparent. First we check for outliers in the assessor's scores. We may choose to remove any scores that appear unjustified or unsupported by the comments provided by the assessors. Next we will look at the assessor's answers to the final recommendation questions, which check whether an application is in scope and worthy of funding. For an application to be considered for funding, they must receive a majority vote from the assessors on both of these questions. Finally, we will check the minimum quality threshold which ensures that only innovative, high quality applications are considered for funding. Typically this is a score of 70% or above. Once the three key checks are complete, we list the applications in ranked order with the highest scoring application at the top. This is known as the panel sheet. Innovate UK takes two approaches when it comes to allocating funding. A top-down approach, where funds are allocated to applications from the top down until the competition budget is reached. Alternatively, a portfolio approach can be used, where applications are selected to suit a specific spend profile for a competition. The competition brief will specify if a portfolio approach will be used. Finally, the recommended list of applications is then presented to Innovate UK's funders panel for approval. The funders panel will review the recommendations in line with the competition scope. Once approved, applicants are notified on the outcome and the assessor's feedback is made available. Feedback is intended to be constructive and may contain conflicting comments due to the assessor's individual interpretation of your project idea. Unfortunately, there is no right of appeal against the assessor feedback and neither Innovate UK nor its assessors are able to enter into further communication. Some of our competitions include a two-stage application process, which could include a second-stage written application or an interview panel. And some competitions may follow a non-standard assessment approach. The competition brief will provide full details.
