Speaker 1: Should you caption your YouTube videos? I mean, is it gonna bring you more views? Is it even important? So Digital Discovery Network did a study where they found that captioned videos bring in 7.32% more views. So there's that, and it makes sense because it's metadata, which basically means that just like your title, your descriptions, and your tags are metadata, and metadata, by the way, is just a fancy way of saying the stuff that the YouTube computers read when it comes to your video. But since it's metadata, it's all taken into account. Now I've got a bunch more information for you about captioning your videos, but there's a few ways that you can actually do this. The first way, of course, is to actually do them yourself. When you upload your videos, you click on the little Subtitles and Captions tab, and then you go in there and you can add your captions manually. Or should I say correct your captions because YouTube typically is only 70% correct on your captions, which means that the automatic captions that are supplied by YouTube can actually give the wrong metadata or give the wrong information about what your video is about. Or you can do like I do and use a service called Rev. I have a link to them down in the description below that will actually save you 10 bucks. Both options, of course, get the job done, but one is obviously easier because somebody's doing it for you. They're checking to make sure everything is correct and all of that stuff. But when it comes to captions, it's important that you know that 36 million people just in America are deaf or have trouble hearing. 5% of the entire population of planet Earth have trouble hearing. And even people who don't have hearing problems, people like me, for example, sometimes I watch YouTube videos with captions as well. And the reason for that is because I'm not always in front of my computer. Maybe I'm at a coffee shop and I forgot my headphones. Well, captions help me be able to look at the video at a very low volume, if even any volume at all, and still be able to consume somebody's content and know what's going on in the video because I can just read along with what's playing in the video. You probably do the same exact thing, but check this out. This is where that gets amplified. So captions are proven to increase comprehension. So if you're trying to learn how to do something and you have the captions on, well, guess what? You're gonna understand what's going on better because you have the captions on. So don't you wanna do that for your viewers as well? I do, and because of that, every single video that I upload, sometimes I'll be a week late or something like that, but every single video that I upload, I put captions on it because I want to be able to reach more people. I wanna be able to reach that person on the subway that's just sitting there looking at their phone and they forgot their headphones. I wanna be able to reach that person at the cafe. I wanna be able to reach that person that's sitting in bed next to their significant other who's trying to sleep. I wanna make my content easier to understand for people that don't use English as their first language, that people that are still getting a grasp on the language. When they're watching my videos, I want them to be able to get what it is that I'm talking about. So because of that, I caption every single video that I upload. Of course, my live streams I don't because they're so long, but the videos, absolutely I caption the videos because if you watch my content for any amount of time, I'm all about creating those advantages for yourself and getting rid of the disadvantages. So when you're captioning your videos, what you're doing is you're creating that advantage because you're making it easier for people to consume your content. You're making it easier for people to keep coming back to your content and people keep coming back to your content because you're making it easier for them than you're more likely to get promoted here on the platform. So for me personally, I use Rev because they're super fast. Sometimes I'll upload a video and I'll have captions within an hour. Other times it can take up to like 12 hours in order to get them, but Rev's captions are super fast. And more importantly, they're accurate. So here's my suggestion. One, it's totally cool if you want to go in and you want to add the captions yourself. Not a big deal. If you have the time to do it, then you can go in there and you can make the adjustments to YouTube's automatic captions. You can go in there and spend all of that time doing all that yourself, which is fine, but add captions. Number two, you can click the link down below this video and save 10 bucks giving Rev a try.
