Speaker 1: This is why you still need legal transcription training even if you're really good at grammar and punctuation and know about the law. For anyone who doesn't know, my name is Deanna. I have been a legal transcriptionist since 2017. I've been on TikTok for the last year talking about how to get into the career and by far the biggest question I get is why do I need training? I've worked in the law profession before. I'm really good at grammar and punctuation. Here's why you need training. Number one, literary grammar and punctuation is very different than the grammar and punctuation that's found in law transcripts and the reason for this is when you're taking something like a legal proceeding that has a lot of commotion going on, a lot of emotion and putting it into black and white that that transcript might be used to draft an order or is used for archival processes. We can't have that emotion in there so that means we have to make things very readable, very legible and easy to digest on the paper but also have them represent accurately what's happening. Another big reason you need training is for most people legal transcription is a brand new industry that they might have never heard of before. You don't know what you don't know and so somebody needs to point out some of the intricacies that you might not even think are a big deal but are a really big deal when it comes to working in this profession every day. The two most challenging things about learning legal transcription, number one is learning it to be accurate enough and number two is getting introduced into the industry so that you can actually get working. That's why I'm a really big advocate of the training program that is linked in my bio. It is not my training but it is the one that I recommend because it is taught by somebody who understands this profession more than anybody, a certified court reporter and it also comes with the opportunity for paid apprenticeship upon your graduation and this is really important because when you're coming out of school there's still a lot that you need to get familiar with. There's a lot of habits and a lot of intricacies that you need to develop. It's really important that you have somebody that can kind of bridge the gap between learning and independent legal transcriptionist. The benefit of having an apprenticeship is that you'll have somebody overseeing your work, meeting you where you're at and also bringing you to the next level. If you're interested in learning about legal transcription in the way that I think is best, please go over to the link in my bio. I have some frequently asked questions as well as the equipment that you need. You might be surprised you might have already all the equipment that you need and you can check out the information that's involved with the enrollment. If you have any questions leave your comment below. Thank you so much and I really appreciate if you give me a follow. Talk to you later.
