+1 (831) 222-8398[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Creators aren't a monolith. From a market perspective, we fall roughly into three camps. You've got your tourists and your hobbyists. They don't care if they monetize or build an audience. They're really just trying to have fun. On the other hand of the spectrum, you have professionals with huge teams behind them, and they're making millions of dollars. But the real story is in the middle. There are 50 million semi-professional creators globally. About half of us are making about under $10,000 a year. 45% make between $10,000 and $100,000, and just 5.5% make more than $100,000 a year. Two-thirds of the people who log into Descript are working creators, full-time independents, side hustlers, small teams, solopreneurs. Hobbyists make up less than a quarter. The creator middle class is real. It's most of us, and it's growing. That's the creator Descript thinks about when we build features like the ones in this season. More than half of that creator middle class saw earnings grow over the past year. This is a real economy, and we're building the creative infrastructure for it. You can see the current lack of infrastructure when you look at the creator burnout rate. 62% of full-time creators report severe burnout. The main causes cited were a workload that won't stop scaling in its distribution channels and form factors, anxiety about whatever fresh hell the new algorithm will bring to our reach, and the sheer number of hours it takes to create good content. Most creators use AI. They don't use it to make generated video. They don't use it to automate a paycheck. They don't even use it to unlock new types of creative output hitherto unimagined. They use it because it gives them a path to keep doing this otherwise impossible work for another year by saving them time. It gives creators a pathway to a sustainable work-life balance. We try to build AI into our product by optimizing for creative productivity without veering into creative surrender.
