Speaker 1: I'm just about to cover what is possibly the most beginner-friendly side hustle in 2022 that will literally get you paid for typing words on your keyboard, so let's get started. Guys, I'm talking about proofreading. And in order to make it happen, we're gonna connect to Scribd.com. This is just a regular platform that offers editing and proofreading services. I'm about to explain exactly how that works and how you can apply for a job here, but for now, we need to do something else in the meantime. And this is quite an important step. What you want to do before that is connect to typingtest.com. And as the name might suggest, this test right here is going to determine your typing speed. You see, as a proofreader, you will basically have to read the text and make sure there's got no mistakes when it comes to spelling, punctuation, grammar, and so on. You will have a whole list of different requirements that you need to check. However, guys, if you want to maximize your profits and get the most out of these jobs, you want to have a decent typing speed. So what you can do right now is just go for the benchmark test that is a standardized or you can just pick the one minute one, go for the medium text and then start it. Once you're here, you will be able to take the test using your laptop, your computer or whatever it is that you're using. So let me just take the test myself and I'll be back in a minute with the results. As you can see, I got a speed of about 66 words per minute when it came to the benchmark test and about 75 words per minute with the medium text. That was just my high score. But guys, if you really want to prove your worth, if you want to prove your typing skills, you can even get a certificate here. It is going to be a five minute standardized test that will prove your typing speed and accuracy and you can even print it. But to sum it up, as long as you're over 50 or ideally over 60, you're pretty good. You're good to go. And even if you're not, these guys are going to help you out. You can also train your typing speed by going through all of these different drills and exercises that will help you improve. But let's not get completely sidetracked here. Let's go back over to Scribd.com and see how it works. What you guys want to do is connect to Scribd.com slash jobs. And this is where the magic happens for us. This is where you can join the world's fastest growing community of professional editors. And this is no joke. This is an actual real world gig. And these guys have been around since 1997. So they're definitely a big platform. Now guys, if you take a look at the current job openings, you might get a little bit scared or confused at first because they are talking about the full time positions, but we're not necessarily interested in those. If you're still in college or you're already involved in a nine to five, you already have a job and you're just looking to make some extra money on the side with an easy side hustle, then you're not necessarily interested in the full time opportunities. And by the way, these do require you to have a bachelor's degree to have some real world skills that are quite valuable and perhaps some previous experience as well. And of course, you cannot expect to become a machine learning engineer if you've never done any sort of work in your life and you don't have any qualification. But we don't really care about that. What we are interested in are the freelance positions. What you want to do is scroll down to the bottom of their page, and that is going to clear things up. Take a look at this. You get to know how much each job pays you upfront and earn a competitive rate. You get paid on a monthly basis, so you don't have to chase after your clients for payments, which is extremely uncomfortable, let's face it. The competition is not going to be as high as it would be on Fiverr or Upwork or other freelancing websites. You're basically working as an independent contractor here. What we are interested to do is apply for the freelance editor or proofreader position. Again, I'm sure that most of you are not interested in the full-time gigs. If you are, you can read more about them right here on their website. But the main focus of today's video is going to be placed on the freelance jobs. So here's what you need. You will need to have a university degree in a relevant field. You also need to have a decent editing or proofreading speed. And this is where your typing speed also comes into play. And there are quite a few different requirements as well. However, guys, if you happen to reside in one of these US jurisdictions, unfortunately, you will not be able to apply. So you may want to look into that as well. However, guys, I also have a few alternatives. So even if Scribd.com is not available in your country for some reason, you will still be able to connect to a different website and virtually do the same thing. So don't worry about that too much. However, if you've gone through the requirements and you think you're qualifying, what you need to do is hit the Apply Now button. That will allow you to enter in your basic details such as first name, last name, and your address. And then you will also have to answer a list of more specific questions such as I have secure broadband internet. I do not reside in the US jurisdictions of California, Colorado, and so on. I can accept payments in USD. I'm going to let you guys explore all of these questions and answer them yourself because it's not too difficult. But now again, let's just imagine the worst case scenario. Let's just say that Scribd.com doesn't accept you. They simply decline your application. Well, if that is the case, the other option you've got is Scribd.com. Again, this website is all about professional editing and proofreading services. So you're not doing something else, you're just using a different platform. However, guys, you want to scroll down to the bottom of your page and click on Jobs because again, that's what we're interested in. And as you can see, they are hiring. You can join the team right now. And again, there will be some full-time positions here that you can apply for and you're going to work either remotely or physically if you happen to live in Amsterdam. But I'm sure that most of you are interested in the remote opportunities that allow you to work as a freelancer or at least part-time. And so what you want to do is scroll down and there you have it. There are four different job openings right now. If you happen to be a native Dutch-speaking person, you're a native German, native English or native French, you will be able to find a job opportunity right now. And again, you're working as a freelancer. For instance, if English is your native language, you want to click on that link and that's going to take you straight over to this section of the website where they will explain exactly what the job consists of. They're going to walk you through the process and explain exactly how it works and why you should join them. But again, from my experience, these guys are also quite picky when it comes to the people they work with. You know guys, I know you're all about the exact figures and you want to see the earning potential when it comes to this job because that's what you're watching this video for. And according to Nowadays.com, on average, freelancer proofreaders can earn around $15 to $20 per hour. And that is not too bad if you ask me, it is definitely a competitive rate. Now we can definitely check a few other sources as well, but on average, we're going to get anywhere from $12 and all the way up to $30 per hour. So that is the rate that you should expect. But now guys, if you're still watching this video at this point, I have a bonus for you. Perhaps proofreading is not for you. Perhaps editing a piece of text might be a little bit too demanding or too challenging or you're not a native English speaker and the opportunity is not available for you whatsoever. That might be the case. So let's find a way around it. Another very similar gig that will still get you paid for simply typing words on your keyboard, but it is a little bit easier is called transcribing files. It is all about turning audio or video files into text. So you will basically have to plug in your headset, turn on the audio, listen to a conversation for instance, and turn it into text. One website that offers such job opportunities is called transcribeme.com. You want to connect to the place, head over to the job section, and then here's how you get paid working from home. You get to monetize your downtime. They have some of the industry's most competitive rates, all the way up to $22 per audio hour, which is not so bad. And all you got to do is turn audio into text. Not only that, but most of the times you will get access to some sort of software that will already do the transcription for you automatically in seconds. And then you just have to proofread it and make sure that it is correct. So it's a very similar gig to the first one, but from my experience, it is way easier to apply successfully to be a transcriptionist than a proofreader. And you don't need any sort of qualification, any sort of degree for that. Again, this is a freelancing job and transcribeme.com is just one of the websites that offers such an opportunity. So you may want to look into it. Again, guys, we've just covered a bunch of different ways you can make money working from your home on your laptop without leaving the comfort of your home by just typing in words. So it is definitely a convenient side hustle that is not too demanding and you don't have to spend several months learning a new skill. It is something that you can do right now, right after watching this video. So I would highly suggest that you connect to as many websites as possible, submit your application in order to have more chances of success. And I can assure you that over a long enough time horizon, one or multiple websites will accept your application and you will be able to start making some money. So that's it for now. And thanks for watching.
