+1 (831) 222-8398[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Chanel just showed its first couture collection under new designer Mathieu Blasi, and what stood out about these clothes wasn't any one particular look, but rather this overall feeling of extraordinary lightness that extended across the entire collection. So many of the pieces, whether they were gauzy or densely feathered, looked as if they were floating on the models. And an essential part of couture is what's called flue, which is the creation of movement in these very light fabric. And you can see that in a number of the opening looks. There were pieces that were almost like ghosts or memories of previous Chanel designs. I don't know whether these pieces are intended to be used or to be worn, or if they were simply a gesture to set the mood for the show, but I cannot overstate how powerful it was to see these fabrics moving across the air. And it occurred to me that so few things in a woman's life feel or look light and breezy. And you can see that feeling even in the pieces that are a bit heavier. I was particularly taken with this black pantsuit that had just a wink of jewelry at the neckline and on the buttons of the cuffs. And this is a piece that looks easy and effortless, even if it comes with great labor and incredible expense. Needless to say, I think Mathieu Blasi is one of the few male designers working today who's really thinking about how a woman should feel in his clothes.
