+1 (831) 222-8398[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Setting up an MCP sounds like it's something only super techy developers know how to do, but it's not. By the end of this video, you'll have Descript's MCP connected to your program of choice, and it only takes about a minute. Now in our last video, we went over what the heck an MCP is, and why you'd even want to use one in your editing workflow. So if you have no idea what I'm talking about, go ahead and watch that video first, and then come back. I'll be here waiting. But now let's get to the specifics. How do we actually set this thing up? Well, there's a couple ways you can do it. One, you can hop into your program of choice, like ChatGBT or Claude, and connect Descript's MCP from there. For ChatGBT, head to the Plugins tab, search for Descript, and add the plugin. Then go into your plugin settings, and for Maximum Usability, choose to Allow All Tools. For Claude, it's a similar process. Click on this little plus icon, and head to Browse Connectors. From there, just search for Descript, and add it as a connector. Then again, allow these permissions, and that's it. You're connected. And it's the same thing in Claude. If you want maximum usability, make sure you open the Descript connector, and select Always Allow for all these tool permissions. Another way to connect Descript's MCP is to simply go to your Descript settings, click on Descript MCP, and connect your program of choice. And boom. That's pretty much it. The MCP's connected, and you can officially call yourself a real tech wizard. Now any program that you've connected has direct access to and can communicate with Descript, which really opens up a world of possibilities for making videos. For example, let's say you have a whole bunch of podcast episodes edited into Descript, and you want to make clips of all those episodes for social. Well, just ask it to simply make those clips for you. You can even give it specifics on how you want it to look or sound, and it'll not only create them for you, but also send you the project link, in case you want to make any tweaks of your own. Or maybe you're making a video where you want to do all the editing yourself, you just want someone to take all the footage and set it up in a project for you, nice and tidy, just how you like it. For example, I have this podcast footage that I filmed in a Google Drive folder, and since I already have my drive connected to my assistant as well, I can actually ask it to take the footage in my folder and create a Descript project for me. I can ask it to make my subfolders, create compositions, and even do first passes at a rough cut if I need it. So now instead of bouncing back and forth to cut clips, clean up my audio, or set up my project, I can just tell my program what I want, and it gets it started. It's like having an assistant editor that you can make do all the annoying stuff you don't want to do, and it makes creating videos that much smoother of a process. Now I can forget about all the annoying logistical stuff, and keep my energy and focus on the creative stuff, the stuff I actually like and care about. So get started with Descript's MCP today.
