Deir Sharaf Attack Leaves Deaf Palestinian Man Injured (Full Transcript)

[00:00:00] Speaker 1: The man being kicked and beaten in this video is 67-year-old Bassem Yassin, a deaf man and father of six living in Deir Sharaf, a Palestinian village in the occupied West Bank. At least 20 massed Israeli settlers, some armed with sticks or clubs, descended on Deir Sharaf on Thursday, setting fire to vehicles, damaging property and injuring two Palestinians. Several Palestinians can be seen fleeing in this video as the settlers began their rampage. But the owner of a nearby factory says Yassin, who is deaf, could not hear them coming in time to escape. After being beaten a first time, he lies hunched on the ground, praying the attackers will leave. Instead, more blows, kicked in the face by one and then struck down by two others. He is now hospitalized with a fractured arm and broken jaw. The Israeli military and police say they detained three suspects in connection with the attack. Settlers attacked this same village in a neighboring dairy distribution facility two months ago, setting fire to trucks and killing several sheep, all part of a pattern of intensifying violence by Israeli settlers over the last two years.
