Speaker 1: Do you or someone you know struggle to hear on the telephone? And did you know that the Americans with Disabilities Act will provide you with a free captioned telephone if you have a hearing loss? Well, in this video, I'm gonna cover all of the great features of the CapTel 2400i captioned telephone and show you how to get one for free. Coming up. Hi guys, I'm Cliff Olson, doctor of audiology and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem, Arizona and on this channel, I cover a bunch of hearing related information to help make you a better informed consumer. So if you're into that, consider hitting the subscribe button. Millions of individuals with hearing loss do not feel comfortable talking on the telephone. This is because they cannot be sure of what their hearing is actually accurate or not. This can be particularly troubling when they get a phone call from a medical professional that's giving them some specific medical information. It can also lead to situations of being isolated from family and friends. Well, in 1990, Title IV of the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed and it mandated that individuals with a hearing loss should have the same ability to use the phone as individuals with normal hearing. This led to the development of the TTY and eventually in 2003, led to the CapTel captioned telephone. These phones use advanced voice recognition technology as well as specially trained communication assistants in order to transcribe phone conversations almost instantaneously. Privacy is controlled by the FCC who has very strict confidentiality guidelines. They also don't allow for the storing of any of the phone information after the phone call is over, so you don't have to worry about your private information getting leaked. So what's so great about the CapTel 2400i captioned telephone? The first thing that I love about the CapTel captioned telephone is that you can have it professionally installed and receive training on how to use it. So you don't have to worry if you don't understand all of the aspects about it, you'll have someone there to show you how it all works. The second thing that I love is that you have a really big screen in order to see the captions really well. You can even adjust the font sizes to make them larger or smaller depending on how big you need them. The third thing that I love is you can adjust the volume and the clarity of the phone based on what's right for you. So if you need to make the volume louder or softer, you can do that. If you need to make it more high frequency or low frequency to get some more clarity or volume, you can do that as well. You can also customize it to exactly the setting that you want so you can make sure that you're hearing it at your absolute best. The fourth thing that I love is that you can use it on speakerphones. So if you want to be able to hear that sound through both of your ears, all you have to do is click the speakerphone function and it will start playing it from the speaker. You can also add an additional speaker to make it even louder. The fifth thing that I love is it has Bluetooth, which means if you have hearing aids that have Bluetooth functionality with a streamer, you can pair that with the phone and that phone will send the sound of the person's voice right through to your hearing aids so you can hear them in your hearing aids directly and follow along with the captions. The sixth thing that I love is that it has voicemail and not just any voicemail, it has transcribed voicemail, which means you can read the messages from the people who leave you a voicemail so not only can you listen to it, you can read it as well. The seventh thing that I love is that you can store contacts in the phone and you can even have a picture with them so you never get confused on who you want to call. So obviously the Captel 2400i Caption Telephone is a great way to help you hear better and more confidently on the telephone, but how do you get one? All you have to do is contact your hearing care professional and they can get you a phone for free. What you don't wanna do is go online and pay $75 to get one if you have a hearing loss. The ADA pays for this phone and installation and training for you so you don't have to worry about any of that. Once you do that, your hearing care professional will submit a request to get you the phone for free if you have a hearing loss. Now not all hearing care professionals will offer a Captel option. There are other options out there. My personal favorite of course though is the Captel 2400i. So if you want this specific version of phone, you need to make sure that you contact a hearing care professional that offers the Captel version. Captel will then directly contact you in order to set up a time to come out and install the phone and train you how to use it. Hearing well on the telephone is critical to staying connected with your family and friends. And in my opinion, the Captel 2400i Caption Telephone is the best way to do that.
