[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Thank goodness you're stopping him. Everyone has known he's been doing this. That's what Donald Trump said to a Florida police chief in 2006 about Jeffrey Epstein according to an FBI document that was released in the latest batch of Epstein files. In the documents the chief alleges that Trump called him after an investigation was launched into Epstein telling him that everyone in New York knew he was disgusting. That was Michael Rater who told the Miami Herald he received the call from Trump. The president has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein and said he didn't know about his crimes. The alleged call though is likely to raise further questions about what Trump knew and when. In 2019 when Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges Trump told reporters he had no idea about Epstein's behavior and had not spoken to him for years. In a statement to the BBC a US Justice Department official said there is no corroborating evidence that Trump contacted law enforcement in 2006 and the White House press secretary also said this. Look there was a phone call that may or may not have happened in 2006. The BBC has contacted Rater for comment.
