Speaker 1: Today, we are going to learn how to access library resources remotely from the United States Army War College Library.

Speaker 2: To do this, you will need the access card you were given at orientation. If you do not have one of these cards, please email us at the email shown on the screen and we will be happy to assist you.

Speaker 1: Begin by typing in the web address found on the card. The three tabs halfway through this page are what you will use to search. The first tab will bring you to this page. Here is where you can type in a keyword, author, or title search. Once you have completed typing in your chosen search strategy, you would click on the yellow magnifying glass to the right of the page. After you do this, the number of results we have available will be returned. As you look through these and find a title you like, click on it. This will give you a longer description of that particular holding and whether or not the book is available. This particular book is checked out. The second tab is the search databases tab. This will allow you to search through all of our magazine, newspaper, and journal articles available in the library databases. You may search using author, title, or keyword search strategies. Simply type your search words into the box and click search, or you can just click enter. Once you click enter, this is the results screen you will see. If you would like to limit your results, you may do so by using the filters on the left-hand side of the page. You can filter to include only full-text articles, you can filter by type of article, and you can filter using several different methods to get within the date range that you like. These are all very helpful in limiting the results to things you can actually use. Then you can click on a title that you'd like. The first time you attempt to use our databases, this blue screen will pop up if you are off-post. Take your card and type in the username and password, case sensitive, that are found on the card. This should allow you full access to the library resources. If you follow these directions and are still having problems, please email us and let us know and we will try to assist you. After typing in your username and password, you should be able to see the full text of the articles, just like this one. The third tab is used to search for specific journals. Simply type in the title of the journal you are looking for and click search. This particular journal can be found in three places, the U.S. Government Military Publications Database, ProQuest Research Library, and a paper copy here at the Ruud Hall Library. Another section of our webpage that you might find handy is the Bibliographies and Guides page. These pages are made by our librarians and contain selected resources on a particular topic. They may contain doctrine, selected journal articles, and even multimedia clips. These are a great place to look when you want some quick information about a certain topic. If you still have questions about how to access our remote resources, please email us at the address listed on the screen.
