Speaker 1: Hey friend, today I'm going to teach you how to structure a 30-minute tutoring session. Whether it's online or in person, this is going to really help you out and it's so quick and easy. You're going to be so shocked at how quickly the steps come together and wish you had started sooner. So let's get started. For that first minute, you're going to want to chat with the kid about anything that they've been up to and really get to know them because the more you get to know them, the more they're going to like and trust you and the better they're going to work for you during that 30-minute time. Ask them about how school's going, what they've been up to with their friends, anything that you know about them, hobbies and interests, really, really try to get to know them and build that relationship. From there, the one to five-minute mark, you're going to review the concept from the last tutoring session. So whatever you worked on last time, review it. This helps build their confidence and ease their anxiety headed into a new session where they might be learning something new and you really want to ease those anxieties because if they're going to learn something new, you want them to be able to try and not give up. And if they feel anxious, they might give up and we don't want that. From there, from the five to 25-minute mark, you're going to teach a new concept. In that time of teaching, you're going to provide guided and independent practice. So this can look like a variety of different things depending on the subject you're teaching. But let's say you're teaching reading and you're helping them with sounding out consonant blends. Then you're going to read a new book together, find all the consonant blends, and then practice again more within that 20-minute window. Make sure that you're maximizing the time to the fullest so that they're getting the most of what you need to teach during that time. If they get all of their work done and they've done a great job for you, then from 25 minutes to 30 at the end of the session, you can do a fun learning game. So this is very exciting for them and super motivating. If they know by the end of the session, if they get their work done, they get to play a game with you, they will totally rock that time and they will be so pumped to play something fun. So it can be a learning game or it could be something random like UNO. My tutoring kids love UNO and I always keep a stack of UNO cards inside my backpack. But if you're tutoring online, you could give them extra whiteboard time. You could play a game with them on the internet somewhere. There's tons of games to play. You could play a game on the whiteboard. There's so many options, but rewarding them at the end of a session is super motivating and it also kind of lets them feel the ease of getting out of the tutoring session and moving on with their day. If you're tutoring for 45 minutes or an hour, you could adjust the times to fit those time slots. So there you have it. You're going to, in the beginning, chat and get to know them and talk a little bit to ease them into the session. Then you're going to move on to review, then to the new concept, and then a game at the end. It's a great way to put a 30-minute session together so it's organized and dependable and the kid knows what's going to happen and they still are having fun at the end. So I hope this helped you and you'll feel very confident yourself going into an online or in-person tutoring session.
