Speaker 1: We're proud of our research at QUT, we're developing super bananas that are expected to raise the health of millions through improved nutrition. We're building the next generation of robots.

Speaker 2: We've undertaken the first comprehensive survey of Australia's Twittersphere. We're trialling drugs to treat illnesses and save lives. We're a leading university in creative innovation.

Speaker 1: But what is it that underpins high quality, reliable research? Honesty, objectivity, respect, transparency, accountability, fairness, trust.

Speaker 2: These qualities are absolutely fundamental. Respect for participants and the environment.

Speaker 1: Trustworthy data and publications. Fairness in acknowledging research contributions.

Speaker 2: Accountability so that precious research funds are not wasted. Transparency because research must be accountable to the public. Ethical research is not just something that's nice to have, it's the roots of all our research at QUT.

Speaker 1: Researchers face many new challenges. There are increased expectations from funding bodies, publishers, the public and institutions.

Speaker 2: The Office of Research Ethics and Integrity exists to provide support to researchers in this complex and evolving environment. ORI provides expert guidance on responsible research conduct.

Speaker 1: We provide support for human and animal ethics applications. We provide advice on data management, data sharing and open access. We provide guidance on authorship practices. Advice on publication and dissemination.

Speaker 2: Advice on conflicts of interest and competing interests. And guidance on biosafety and trade controls.

Speaker 1: We distill all this knowledge and provide researchers with helpful information that applies to them. We're broadening our educational capabilities to include face-to-face and on-demand training for research ethics and integrity across a variety of media.

Speaker 2: We're also committed to the ongoing review and continuous improvement of our processes. We're connecting and collaborating with researchers to help us improve.

Speaker 1: We know that QUT researchers want to be responsible researchers.

Speaker 2: We support researchers by providing education, guidance and advice to embed a high-quality research culture at QUT.
