Rev Expands Legal AI With Translation and Image Review (Full Transcript)

[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Hello, everyone. Welcome in. We'll give it just a couple seconds and then we'll get started. We have to let people flood in from the waiting rooms. We won't delay too long. All right, let me go ahead and start sharing my screen. We're gonna dive right into it. This is around our third month of doing these webinars, and so today I want to show you some things that I've heard over the last couple weeks from my customers, new ways of working through Rev that might interest you. And if you have questions over the end or if I jump straight to the thing I want to show you, but there's actually some questions of process and how we got there, we will leave time at the end or you can always put your questions in the chat and Olivia will make those known to me, as it is hard for me to see once I screen share here. Cool. If you're an investigator, you've come to the right place. My name is Hunter Saltzgiver. I support all of our legal contracts. That's everything that wants to run an evidence or discovery review that cares about what is inside of their case and wants to be able to uncover that no matter the size or no matter how hard that task might be. And so I help my customers find the right workflows and ways to go about that within Rev. Today I'm gonna highlight just a couple of things that maybe are on the periphery of Rev, but that I do experience with all my customers. They all come to me and say Hunter, it's not always in English and it's not always written text or spoken word, and so how can you guys help me with that? So what I want to show you today is ways that we can help other languages. I'll highlight which languages we support, a few different ways to work within Rev for some other languages, and I also want to touch on some of our image capability that's come around in the last couple months here. We've had some really cool wins and success stories from our customers with those images capabilities, and I think there's ways you should consider working with them that I'll share. So first off, let me take you to maybe a boring screen for half a second here, so I can show you all the languages that Rev does support. Inside of my file preferences, I'm gonna go down here and you'll see we set everyone in the legal space up with automatic language detection. So what that means is whatever language is spoken inside that file, we're gonna type it in the language that was spoken, okay, and then we'll help you gain understanding for that in other languages. If you're wondering what languages we automatically detect, here they are. Okay, I think it's around 36 to 40 of these languages, and we want to support more, so if you have some that you frequent, always reach out to us. Let us know what you're needing, and we can see what we can do to build that into the product. All right, I'm gonna go back out to a file that I definitely don't understand, an Italian file, and I want to show you two or three ways to work with this Italian file. First, I'm gonna click in on the individual file itself, and one of the first things that I did, because I definitely do not understand this, I studied abroad in Italy for a short bit of time, but I am by no means capable with this language. I just went ahead and asked, can you summarize, and it absolutely did, and the thing I want you to notice is that it is summarizing this in English, okay, so as an investigator or a lawyer whose real job is to find understanding so that they can find the procedural mishap or instill doubt or really just prove their client innocent, I'm gonna come in here and look for what is actually happening inside this file, and if I care to, I can jump to that specific point inside the file where this is happening. Now, if you're like me, this still was not very useful to listen to that back, I still don't know even though this is telling me what's happening, so I'm gonna go up here, and anytime we have another language, we're gonna pop open this translation tab, and what it's gonna do is show you a side-by-side of what was said and what is translated back to English, so now I know that this happened around minute 108, I'm gonna go find that chunk, and now I can start reading that word for word as it is, okay. Ways to gain understanding. Alright, so we reached a limitation here. The limitation is I want to take this translation with me. Uh-oh, we really don't have that ability to download this quite yet. Let me go ahead and take us to a really cool example of how I've seen Rev's Insights tool used recently. Rev's Insights tool is how we securely and safely use the power of LLMs pointed at multiple files at once in order to gain understanding, find cited sources, right, each one of these hyperlinks will pop me to exactly where the answer was, so I took that Italian file, right, the same one we were just looking at, and I asked the AI, can you translate this video word-for-word into English and keep those timestamps that you had, and it took a look at this transcript, it translated it word-for-word, and now I have similar citations so that I can go and review this. I find this way of working really helpful compared to the first way that I might have showed you, and why does this way inside of Insights reign supreme? Well, say you get other pieces of evidence, you can always add those alongside and get more understanding than just the individual transcript. I think that's a pretty good way of thinking about it, but additionally, if I scroll to the bottom here, what Rev has given you the opportunity to do is draft this into something that you can download. So if previously, this screen here, we did not really have the ability to download, here we have the ability to generate this into a document, remove the citations, and export this as a PDF or a Word, and any changes that I might make, like say I want to go ahead and remove this line because it didn't quite make sense, and maybe there's even a line at the end that I don't want, like maybe I just don't want this whole last section here. Any of those spots that I remove, I'm gonna come in here to the version history, and I'm gonna be able to see the changes that I make. So we're now saving version histories, which is really helpful anytime you're forming documents. Okay. Okay, start to front. We just showed you, or start to back, we just showed you how you can take a file from another language, any of the 36 that I showed you, get understanding, get direct translation, take it with you, right, edit it if you need to, and get back to what you originally started with if for some reason you edit it the wrong way. Really powerful, really powerful, and I see most of my customers are using this for Spanish, admittedly. That's the one that they frequent most, but I see this for a whole lot of different use cases. Okay. The second thing that I want to relate to, and since we're already here inside of Insights, it's a great thing to go to, is our image capabilities. Okay. We can load up to 500 files inside of this sidebar at once. Okay. 500 files for our contracted customers. We do have a few different tiers that allow you different file limits over here on the side, so I encourage you to explore those. And we can explore up to 50 of those 500 in any one question. So I have a lot of lawyers or investigators loading all of their images for their case over here on the sidebar and saying, can you summarize the first 50? Can you summarize the second 50, third 50, and so on until they exhaust their list. And why would you want to get those summaries? Because you can download this, re-upload it back to Rev, and start playing against it. Start saying which images show me blank, which images show me blank. Really start to surface the key images. Of course, you're going to look at them all, but this would be very useful, and I'll show you in a minute why. Okay. I can sort them. I can say, okay, help me understand what the color floors were, what the color carpets were. And it told me that I had a dark pink one. Okay. I had a blue, another blue. Right. And these are all the ones that had carpets. And I asked it which ones were pink. Okay. You can do this for a myriad of things. This data set here has a bunch of different things. Which ones are nighttime? Which ones are bright? Right. And I can imagine if you're an investigator, you're asking questions like, which one had the evidence card to? Which one contains images of a gun? Okay. Now, I uploaded more real-to-life. This is very much so for a demo. Some AI generated, kind of making this into a math problem, and saying divide it and categorize it. But let's go into something a little bit more playful. I uploaded two pictures. One, right. This is obviously a stock photo. This is not a real perpetrator. And I found that interesting. Okay. It has shutterstock at the bottom. It has the watermarks, and it has a sign that he's holding. I went down here. I clicked on this firearm. And I am a layman. I am not a lawyer. I'm not in law enforcement. I'm from Texas, but I don't really shoot that many guns. My name is Hunter, but I don't shoot that many guns. I did not know exactly what this was. Let me show you what our output was for each of these. Right. This mugshot is a staged booking photo. So, our AI picked up the fact that it knew it was staged. It picked up the fact that he had multiple facial injuries, including bruises and cuts. He's standing against the standard lineup chart. He's holding a black placard. It says police department. It says charge. These are all really helpful things to index on. And now, I could create this into a document, which I have below. I'll show you. And if I re-upload that back to Rev alongside all my other evidence, you know, the body camera, you know, the police report, the charge documents, the witness statements, and all, I might be able to start using Rev to cross-analyze even my photos. Okay. The second one I thought was really useful, too. I hyper explained how I'm just not into guns. I don't know much about them. This told me the exact make model. It told me the exact millimeter weapon, the ammo that this would carry. And more than I even need to know, it told me that this was, you know, from Austria, the make and model. Okay. I can only imagine that if you uploaded all your photos for your next case and turned over this first summary part of your process to Rev, how quickly we would help you sort and analyze your images. Okay. It does not alleviate you maybe from that need to go and look through it all yourself, but it absolutely can help. Okay. Cool. Let's take a look briefly at that document. A document that gets created when you say, okay, turn this response into a document. It lives in this generated file section. Okay. Once again, a completely editable thing here and exportable. And when you export it, you can also share it with other people inside your account, which is a newer feature from Rev. We want you to share these responses with each other and further the case. And we often have paralegals or investigators that are doing work for lawyers that later need to pick that work up and run with it in court. Okay. Cool. One last thing for us here. Okay. Where this lives, it lives here in the generated file section, which is always attached to these insights chats. These insights chats, they don't leave and you can always rename them. And I suggest you do right away. Okay. But they also come back to a place in your, my files, which is private to you. And it lives inside of a generated files folder. Okay. So if you're ever struggling to find in the insight session, you know, you've drafted a document, come back into this generated file section and you're going to see all of the files that you've generated. Another feature I want to pull it out. That's newer to Rev is that there's this purple bar that exists over here. The second you open a file, we're going to take that purple bar away. So this is another way for you to help sort and understand which files you've actually opened to review. Okay. Other helpful things like that are just these brief breakout summaries.

[00:12:32] Speaker 1: So not only want you to know that you can create these documents, but they're easy to find. They go to a repository that's a common folder. They're not always broken out inside of each insight session. Okay. Last thing for me today, guys, we want everyone to know which workflows that they frequent most often. When you first start an insight chat, we do present you with a couple of workflows that we find our investigators and lawyers go to first. I talked to someone yesterday, she said she only had two days to start with the case. That was how late they got the thing is dropped on them. They created the case chronology first. This was the first line of defense. And she said it absolutely helped her with her preparation. Okay. When we introduce new things like image capabilities, we know that you're going to try new prompts. And there's definitely a case to be made. Pardon my double use of that to create your own templates. Okay, so there's two things we're going to do here for you. We're going to allow you to sort these. Maybe you don't want to see the ones that are specific to journalism. Maybe you only want to see the ones that are specific to you. So, you know, I highlight the ones that I train all day, I train police, I train lawyers, I train people in family law, I train those in criminal defense and civil defense. So I'm going to highlight those. And these are the ones that we think you should be trying, given a shot on your next case, seeing if you like the output, there are different outputs. And if you're bold enough, or you're already using a workflow outside of Rev, we really want you to bring that workflow into Rev, create a prompt here, it's available for you, and anyone else in your account that might benefit from that prompt to leverage from this workflow template menu, right after you create it. Okay. And these are small boxes, this prompt looks like it's maybe a small thing, but you can actually add a lot of prompt to that box. Okay. If you are a contracted customer, and this feels intimidating to you, I want you to come straight to me. That's what I'm here for. I help my customers build prompts. We have specific people on staff that are basically prompt engineers, we call them FTEs. And we'd love to deploy them to your account, help you build the workflow that's specific to the investigation, or the case that you frequent. Okay, and we don't pretend to know the all the inner workings to your process, we want to be able to align to that. Here's how we do it. Okay. Awesome. Really appreciate everyone's time today, tuning in, looking at how we can hang on to other languages, looking at how we can handle images, really cool stuff that we know that you come across. And then also looking at now that we have some of these new features, how can we create new workflows for ourselves, things that can maybe automate bits of our process, move faster towards that document we need to create, or that understanding we need to have throughout our investigation. I want to open it up now to questions. I know oftentimes Olivia has some of those that she's either fielded through you all as you responded to your registration, or even throughout this webinar. Olivia, was there any questions that you had, or were there any that attendees want to come off mute and even ask?

[00:15:44] Speaker 3: Yeah, awesome. Thank you, Hunter. We do have some questions. The first question that we have is, what kind of security does Rev have?

[00:15:55] Speaker 1: Oh, that's a great question. Rev has SOC 2 Type 2 compliance. For contracted customers, we have the ability to be HIPAA and CEGIS. Anything you delete off, Rev's gone forever. We don't keep anything in duplicates. And we always keep privacy measures like my files and shared with me so that you control where those files go, who's seeing them at any given time. And anytime you open a file even, like I'm going to go ahead and open this one here, everything's restricted to the user that placed that order until it's opened up to more people through a folder sharing system or direct share. It's really one of the ways that we win over a lot of our competition, we don't train on our customers data. And, you know, the questions that you ask inside of here on our own instance of these LLMs. So while we're bringing you a lot of that modern day power of LLMs, we're giving you also a lot of modern securities that other tools don't afford you. These are things that operate on our own closed server environment. So security is definitely the name of the game, especially for this industry. For those of you on the law enforcement side or prosecutor side, we know that it is also hyper important to keep those things on lockdown until it becomes an open case and shareable with the defense. And so we take all those things seriously every bit of the process there along the way. I have some really good security resources I can share as well. So if I left any bits of that answer untouched, or you still have questions around that security, make sure that you reach out to one of us after this, and we'll make sure that we push those resources out to you.

[00:17:32] Speaker 3: Thanks, Hunter. Our next question is, have you heard of any new or interesting ways to use Rev from customers?

[00:17:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, so I mentioned a couple in just like the way people are using photos and the way people are translating using insights. Let me mention just a couple of more. I have investigators that work inside of a corrections facility. They run interviews to investigate based on things that other inmates report. So when they report, hey, this, this inmate beat me up. Well, now the police officers have to go investigate that, right? So it all starts with one thing, but then it leads to multiple things quickly, right? Just like my investigators in this room, you start with your witness interview, right? And then you start to go out to other people that knew this person, character witnesses and whatnot. They used Rev's initial understanding of what they had as they started their case, to help form questions that they would ask people later that they knew they were going to need to interview. And I thought that was a really cool way to work. So they essentially took everything that they had for the case, put it right over here, ask the question, hey, knowing that these are, this is what we already know, and knowing that we're going to go find blank inmate and blank inmate, can you help me create a question list that would be part of that interrogation? And they have to do this anyway, as investigators, and they have very smart questions they were going to ask anyway, that maybe our AI did not, you know, prove to be exhaustive and give them every single thing. But it absolutely helped them think of things they weren't thinking of before. And it helped them tie it directly to the complaint, which was really useful for them. So I thought that was really cool. I thought another way of working is that while, you know, Rev currently is not someone that provides case law to any sort of defense firm or anything like that. We do have a lot of our defense firms bringing case law, putting it alongside all of their evidence, and using that to help draft, you know, arguments or motions and case summaries and things like that. So it's been really cool to see, you know, over time, we thought people are just going to bring all their evidence. Well, now they're actually bringing parts of the case in order to give them logic on how they're going to do the rest of their case. Or they're bringing my second example, their case law stuff that Rev doesn't provide into Rev, in order to get those cited sources and start drafting those documents that they would need to do anyway inside of Rev now. So I think both of those ways are really cool.
