SDL's Leadership in Machine Translation and AI Innovations (Full Transcript)

Speaker 1: SDL has been a leader in the field of machine translation and natural language processing for the past 15 years. This is a key area of research and innovation for us. We have over 45 patents in the field and a large set of customers both in the commercial market as well as in the aerospace and defense market.

Speaker 2: In the modern era, companies are distributed all over the world. It is very important that they communicate clearly and rapidly and that they are able to collaborate in a speedy and effective manner. And machine translation enables you to do this across language very, very effectively. And the recent breakthroughs with neural machine translation also enable you to have a much higher level of confidence that the communications are accurate and truly useful to enabling business agility. So machine translation, I think, is a necessary technology for any global enterprise that wants to be agile in a global world.

Speaker 3: Neural machine translation actually was a revolution in the machine translation field. And the way we train those neural networks is through deep learning. And what you achieve with this technology is much better fluency for language pairs that were actually struggling to generate good qualities. And we've also realized that the same structure, the same architectures of neural networks could be applied to language understanding and language generation or summarization or tagging or entity recognition. Well, one of the reasons why we invest so heavily in this space is that we see an important future for our customers in leveraging not just machine translation, obviously for the localization business, but we believe that the innovation in artificial intelligence can really change the way that we approach the problem of helping customers go global.
