[00:00:00] Speaker 1: That's why I wrote Prophecy, because I realized that the whole machinery of surveillance is at the service of a machinery of prediction. If we didn't want to predict, for example, people's sexual orientation, or how they're going to vote, or what they're going to buy, or where do they hurt in general, and how are they going to react in some cases, we wouldn't be surveilling them. And so that's why it's so important to keep these two concepts in mind. And I think, you know, you haven't gotten to that point, but at the end of the book, I write about surveillance and prediction as the two original sins of digital tech. These systems were designed to surveil and predict, which are two fundamental methods of social control.
