[00:00:00] Speaker 1: Federal immigration authorities allowed a suspect in a $100 million jewellery heist to self-deport himself to South America before he could face a trial, according to prosecutors. Jason Nilon Priscilla Flores was one of seven people charged last year with stalking an armoured truck to a rural freeway rest stop north of Los Angeles and stealing millions worth of jewellery, diamonds, emeralds, gold, rubies and designer watches in 2022. It was believed to be one of the largest heists in U.S. history, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. This bodycam footage shows the moment security told police what had happened.

[00:00:34] Speaker 2: That was our seal. That's your seal? We had a lock on here. You had a lock on here, yep. And it's gone.

[00:00:40] Speaker 1: Flores was charged with conspiracy to commit theft from interstate and foreign shipment, as well as theft from interstate and foreign shipment, and was facing up to 15 years in federal prison. According to court filings, he had pleaded not guilty to all charges against him when ICE deported Flores in late December after he requested voluntary departure before he could face a trial. Despite Flores being a lawful permanent resident and released on bail, he had been taken into ICE custody in September, according to his defence attorneys. His attorneys have now called for the case against Flores to be dropped. ICE did not respond immediately to an email seeking comment.
