Speaker 1: I think that the biggest trend that I have seen this year, and that I think will continue to see in books in general, really is audiobooks. I have more and more authors asking me about audiobooks now, and I think that in today's world where everyone's listening to podcasts and has a commute from work, and they want something that they can listen to and they want something that they can absorb, audiobooks are going to see a huge rise. I think that, you know, a few years ago we saw like e-books was the big thing and everyone had to get a Kindle or an iPad and that's how people wanted to read books. And I actually believe that e-books are now kind of on the decline and people are either picking a physical book that they can hold or an audiobook that they can listen to while they're on the go. So I really do think that's going to be the trend for the next year. Getting an audiobook produced is actually really simple. A lot of authors don't realize how simple it is. You just go to Amazon's backend system, which is called ACX, so acx.com, and you can start a project and you can browse thousands and thousands and thousands of professional narrators who either do voiceovers for cartoons or do their own audiobooks or perhaps they're like radio show hosts or they work on TV somehow and they just do the audiobooks as like a side gig and they upload audio files and you can browse through and select do you want a female or a male voice, do you want someone with an accent, if so what kind of accent, do you want someone who has a raspy voice or an uplifting voice or someone who has a calm voice and you really can drill down in ACX to find your perfect audiobook narrator or many, you know, many options within that category. And then you can basically just reach out to them and ask them if they have time or interest in recording your audiobook and give them a little bit of info about your book itself and provide them with a sample, a chapter or two, or maybe even a couple of paragraphs. And some audiobook narrators will actually record, you know, a few sentences of your actual book for free and send it back to you and see if you want to work with them. And you can even find narrators within a certain budget. So if you're only looking to spend $500 or $200, you can find narrators who are open to that and then kind of start from there. And some of those narrators will even take a royalty share. So you can offer to pay them $200 and the rest they get as a royalty share once your audio book is out and released. So the royalties that come to you are then split between you and the narrator until their agreed upon amount is reached. So there really are a lot of great options in the audiobook world. So ACX is like the backend platform of Audible. And so once you start working with a narrator or if you record the book yourself, which you can do, you upload all of your files into your ACX platform under a project and the project is just titled, you know, Your Book Project. And then you release it and typically I think Audible takes 10 to 14 days to review the files. If they have any issues with the files, they'll just email you directly and let you know what they want changed or edited, and so you would make those changes and then put it back into the system, and they take another few days to review and make sure that the changes they requested were done correctly, and if all goes well, your book goes up on Amazon and Audible and you can see it on the Audible app, and you can also see it on Amazon available as an Audible book. you
